E7 Powerheads or Thumper Heads
I have narrowed down my choose of heads between the E7 Power Heads and the Thumper Heads. I decided on these two heads for cost, but mostly for OEM look. Both of these heads will except all OEM parts and install without any issues. I am going for the sleeper look in my stang.
I will be running the heads with a B Cam, 1.7 rockers, and a Extrude Honed Factory Upper and Lower Intake, with a FRPP T5 trans with a 2.95 first gear and 3:55 out the rear. Here is what I would like to know. +Performance wise which of the two heads is a better choose? +Which head has more torque and HP? +Does any one on this board run these heads? +What times can I expect from these heads? I have decided to go the sleeper route because I was in a race at the track last week with a 91 LX stang that looked bone stock except for the exhaust. The car skirted the 1/4 in 12.33 @ 113 MPH naturally aspirated and still had all power accessories and A/C still in top working order. The only thing that signaled it was fast was the 4 point roll bar that still left the back seat and hatch usable and the flowmaster exhaust. I talked to th owner after the race and he popped his hood and everything looked stock including the air silencer. I asked how did you get those times, you running NOS, he said no I have a lot of work done. But it is mostly internal so I can keep my sleeper look. He told me he dynoed at 318 RWHP and had the dyno sheet in his glove box to prove it. Needless to say it impressed the hell out of me.

Powerheads their quality and technique is way ahead of Thumper and if you don't believe me ask Ed Curtis at FTI what he thinks.

Re: E7 Powerheads or Thumper Heads
Your pretty much getting the same thing either way... Ported E7's. Why not save up the extra $200-300 and get a nice set of the new Edelbrocks? If money is an issue, then you could at least get a set of aluminum GT-40s for $749/set here: http://www.buyfordracing.com

I would rather spend the extra cake and get aluminium heads too but I think he pretty clearly stated why he wanted cast iron and gave two good reasons. So as much as I would rather have aluminium heads... we should leave in this thread.

I agree, I prefer power heads over thumper. I'm posting some old flowbench results from both, even though I'm not sure about how accurate they are.
Power Heads First Lift-------- Intake--------------Exhaust .100---------63.5-----------------62.5 .200 --------124------------------109 .300---------189.5----------------150.5 .350---------202.9----------------162 .400---------213------------------169.3 .450---------216.5----------------172.4 .500---------217------------------174 Thumper Heads This one is rather short on information but it's the only one I have, sorry. Lift-------- Intake-----------------Exhaust .400---------196-------------------150.5 .500---------218-------------------154 .600---------219-------------------160 .700-------- 221-------------------162 |

Re: E7 Powerheads or Thumper Heads
From the looks of the graphs I would run Thumper heads useing a cam with a little more lift of the exhaust side.
I know neither 1 of these heads are for huge hp numbers. But the thumper heads have smaller valves and that shows on the flow numbers for exhaust. These heads would make the best stock type ported heads for a daily driver with mods this mild.
