New Intake Manifold Design?

Yea well about 5 months back i had my intake manifold gasket replaced at a shop and i dont think that the new design was in or if they used it. Anyway so my question is after i spent the money putting the old type of gasket back in i fear i will have the same problem. Would i be able to get GM to replace the Inatke gasket u think? I know i shouldn't hold my breath but i figured i'd ask.

If GM did the service to replace the part in the first place, you might be able to achieve a repair if its a repeating problem, if it wasn't a GM shop, your SOL for sure.

Re: New Intake Manifold Design?

If the dealership did the work, chances are they used the newer design gaskets as they have been out since 7/02. If an independant shop did the work, and they bought the parts at the dealership, see if they list the gasket part # on your invoice. the number for the new gaskets is 89017279. The mechanic was also supposed to replace the intake manifold bolts with new ones from GM. They have a pre-applied threadlocker on the bolts. Their part #'s are 11588915 for the shorter bolts, and 11588914 for the longer bolts.I would go back and ask them if you are unsure.

Re: New Intake Manifold Design?

Have a couple guys at work with GM cars that have had the gaskets or manifolds replaced, no help from GM in any of these. Think all new GM cars should have a spare set of gaskets in the trunk with a coupon for free install. Maybe Toyota could redesign the intake sealing for them? This is ridiculous.
