2002 Bentley EXP Speed 8

Chatting with Nenad over the past few days has made me realize I have not shown my LMM Bentley to anyone but a few guys in town... So without further ado...

I decided I didn't need to leave both doors open so I glued the left side door and left the right side open. The door is not hinged but to prop it open I drilled a very small hole in the fender and the door and inserted a small piece of stiff black wire. The wire is removable for posing the car closed. The interior received a whole whack of Studio27 Carbon Fibre decals which to me is the best on the market. For the driver's seat I decided to do something a little different. I noticed in one of the reference shots that one of the drivers had his seat insert completely covered in pieces of silver duct tape. What I did to simulate duct tape in 1/24th scale was to take Tamyia masking tape and cut it into suitable size strips. Once I had layered the whole seat I then took some Model Master Aluminum Buffing and brushed it on. To keep the sublte dullness of tape I simply did not buf the Aluminum. Instead I put a wash of black ink on to give the tape seams a little more definition.

For some reason I did not take pictures of the build so unfortunately this Bentley does not qualify for the LeMans contest

Hi,

a great model !!

Nice idea with the wire to make the door movable. The seat came out quite well. You can often see a race seat covered with tape, but usually it is black tape.

@ primera man:

LeMansMiniatures only brought a curbside model (unfortunatelly), the model has no engine.

Wow, really impressive. This is one of the cars I wish were made in plastic.

Re: 2002 Bentley EXP Speed 8

Thanks for all the kind comments The big question everyone has, is what is the paint. In most LeMans Miniatures kits they give you a small color chip of the paint needed. I took that chip to an automotive paint shop and they took a sample with a handheld scanner that breaks down the color to it's tinting components. He cross referenced the color to their color books and came up with a color called Seaspray Green Poly - MAE45556A. This was mixed for me in 2K Urethane which I mix 3 parts medium reducer with 1 part paint. This paint is awesome to work with.

For those asking about engine pics, unfortunately this is a curbside kit and in some ways I'm glad. Sometimes it's nice to just clean and paint the body, slam the decals on and you have virtually instant gratification

Of course that being said, the interior took quite a bit of time to carbon fibre decal as did the duct tape seat. And one thing you can't really see in the photos ( I must try and take a shot so you'll believe me) but all the dark areas under the headlight covers is Studio27 carbon fibre THAT took some time...

Thanks again for all your comments

Mick Sz.

Awesome work Mick.
I have this kit, and wanted to mod up the Toyota engine for it.....We will see as it is quite a lot of work.

Cheers
Nenad
