$8000- what should i get??

Ok, I have $8000 to spend on a car. I'm looking for maybe a 97,98 civic hatchback, then swapping the engine with maybe an ls vtec. I also have a friend who will sell me their '95 civic w/ an ls vtec for $5500. This will leave me $2500 to fix up that '95 civic. What are my other options, or what is the best way to go with $8000 to spend to get the best performance for any car.

Get a LT1 camaro if you want someting fast, stock(with tons of potential). If you want a civc, lean towards something newer with low miles. If you plan on doing an engie swap, get the cheapest one with the best body(no salvage title) you can. Reguardless of miles.

Re: $8000- what should i get??

H22 in a civic is a really BAD idea. If you're gonna drop 8k on a car, at least get something with a/c. I would also lean towards a late model Camaro/Firebird. Civics get better mileage, but by the time you get them to where they can keep up with a late model F-body, your MPG has gone down the crapper...

In all honesty, if you are looking to spend $8000 in a car, look into something other than a civic. Look into some of the car's listed here. Ace had a decent list, and there were a few other cars listed in here you could find for $8 if you looked hard enough. They are pretty much all faster than a civic with more potenial to boot.
