evo no good?

i've been looking for exhaust for my car and i was about to get the greddy evo exhaust for my teg today. then my friend told me about his experience with his, he said there was a noticable loss at the low end and wouldnt recommend it unless i went FI real soon. i can see why, cuz its pipe diameter is larger for maximum flow. so that changed my mind fast.

so now i'm back to trying to decide which exhaust to get. i know i'll need a pipe diameter that isnt as large so i wont lose as much low end power. what should i get? i was thinking apexi world sport? dc? greddy sp? i dont want the bumble bee sound and i dont want anything really loud until WOT.

I like tanabe and Thermal R&D. I dont think it sounds too loud but maybe it's just my style.

I went down and got an after market exhast....
You will want at the most 2.25" pipe. If you gutt the cat then replace it with a dummy pipe. If you want i can find the place so that you can get one and email you the site. it is around 35 bucks.
...This is what i have on my exhaust. dc 2 peice header, dummy pipe, 2.25" aluminum pipe with a high flow resonator( basically a resonator that has a larger inlet diameter) to the rear with the least amount of bends attatched to an apexi muffler. I like the muffler because it is cad welded. Cad welded means that it is welded be a computer so the weld is smooth. Stainless steel ofcourse. It has a deep throaty sound and is quiet untill the vtec kicks in and it screams "get the hell out of the way!"

total cost for me was right at 300$ for muffler, you can most likely get the n1 or something else that is cheaper. I got mine on wholesale, though I forgot what model it is. pipe from the cat back 60$, dummy pipe 29$, and header was around 269$ from a site that has the cheapest prices for exhaust products. I got a huge upper end power gain and now when I have it at wot it will pull harder from 4k and up.

91 ls/vtec 202hp

CD full exhaust? u mean DC sports??

For an exhaust, $560 is kinda too much for me. U should be able to find one under $500 for DC sports.

yea, i've heard a lot about not going bigger than 2.25 in. i was looking at greddy sp or mx, and they are 60mm so thats about 2.36 in. So I guess greddy is out of the question all together. i guess now its down to dc or apexi or tanabe?

thats a nice looking exhaust from tanabe. how do you like it petzride? i heard tanabe's are really loud. what is the pipe diameter?

shit, tanabe is 60 mm too. does it really matter? seems like all the good exhausts are 60 mm. i'm just going by what i hear, i have no experience with the different exhausts.

I think you people are overreacting to word of mouth statements. There are two sides to this issue and it is unclear as to which one is right. Here is the question I posed in another thread:

I believe the DC Sports exhaust uses 2.25" diameter piping while the GReddy EVO uses a pipe which ranges from 60mm (2.36in) all the way up to 70mm (2.76in) right before the muffler. Now, most people believe that 1.5-20. liter N/A engines should use an exhaust pipe in the 2-2.25" range, but I have been reading more and more about how the larger 2.5" piping actually benefits the car (Most recently in the May 2002 SCC on pg. 26 "Ehaustive Research"). I do not know what truly is right or wrong, but I would be interested to see if he really did lose power between the GReddy and DC Sports exhaust.

Side note: I am aware that mufflers do make a difference as well...

Give that letter to the editor in SCC a quick read...it is written by the president of an exhaust company.

if you can afford a full catback kakimoto N1 megaphone get it. it runs about $900 but it puts at least 7-9whp to your car.
