Glue eating paint

Hi,

I just glued some parts onto my BMW 850i kit with Revell Contacta Glue, and when I lifted the car body up I still had glue on my fingers.

So the glue came on model, and it ate through paint (which was TS-55 dark blue metallic)

This is very annoying, I had similar problem before with using Contacta glue.

Now my question is; are there glue types that don't eat paint?

Well, I don't think there are any. I used testors model cement, and if you get any of it on the paint, that spot is totally gone and back down to the plastic. If you do manage to find some, should submit it to the encyclopedia. Good luck. I would also like to know if there is any.

you can use Elmers glue or even Microscale's Krystal Kleer but these will take a long time to dry.
Best is to glue the pieces with modeling glue before you paint.

Yes, I think you are right. I will ask my local hobby shop about Kristal Kleer and Elmer.

But what about taillights?
How must I glue taillights on without getting paint on them?

You use the krystal klear or elmers glue since they dry clear. Just put a bit on your finger and run it around the edge where it meets the taillight houseing.

Or better yet use the nice little nozzle on the end of the bottle, therefore avoiding the whole problem of glus on the fingers in the first place.

yesterday i had this exact problem right when it came to the last process of gluening down the tailight and the paint from the light leaked allover my poor civic. Now i have to go thru and fix that.

Almost all plastic glue's will eat paint....try Kristal Clear that has already been said to stop it.

Aleene's Tacky Glue or Super Tacky Glue will bond clear without harming the surface underneath. It's fairly strong too, if a little 'gooey' for gluing small parts to a model without excess showing up.

To put glue on a model I use a toothpick or pin. Makes for more precise applicaiton and avoids the glue on fingers problem. For gluing small clear parts try clear paint or "Future" type polish.
