Factory speakers are no more.
Well after 20 years of use the factory speakers in my Caprice have finally blown out. The final blow was when I put a 40W deck in to replace the factory 12W FM radio. The speakers just make a buzzing sound now. If it at all helps my current deck is a JVC KD-S570.
Well anyways I have currently $50 in my wallet and I don't get paid for 3 weeks. I also need to buy some gas for my car today. And most of that pay check goes to my car insurance. So that leaves me around maybe $40 to work with now or $100 in 3 weeks for new speakers. Not much, I know. The possiblities that I can think of are these: Spend $40 on really cheap replacement speakers, wait 3 weeks with no stereo for nicer speakers, or buy two cheap speakers now and two nicer ones later, or I could also wait 5 weeks when I can have $400 for 4 really good speakers. But I don't think I can go 5 weeks with out speakers in my car. Anyone have any opinion on what I should do?

I'rd suggest you wait for awhile till you can afford good speakers.
Its no point buying crap speakers, because you probably will blow them again in the future. Oh it depends how blown your old speakers are, but it may be possibly to glue them back up so they work. Mine blew, and split on the edge of the cone, so i just ran some superglue along there, and presto they work again (you just can't have very much bass, or they sound bad) sarujin

Well I forgot all about my government refund check that I will be getting back very soon. That will be enough to buy me some nice high quality speakers. I am even now trying to figure out if I will have enough for an amp and maybe even some subs.

and if the wire going to the cone came loose, you can easily solder it back on, just watch out for the magnet

If you have only a few bucks left to live on til pay day then WAIT. It's been my experience that I blow my last few bucks on something the don't NEED then something comes up and I'm SOL. Also don't settle for crap speakers like others said. Wait a few weeks til you have money to buy a nice set. I have had good luck with Pioneer, Kenwood and MTX as far a decent set of spekers goes. They have reasonable sets for around $250-300.

In a strange turn of events, I figured out that my rear speakers aren't really broken. The mounting hardware that holds the right rear speaker in place got loose and was causing interference and weird vibrations. Which to me sounded sounded like broken speakers. Its fixed now, just needed a screw driver.
The speakers sound fine at lower volume levels but get distorted at higher volumes. My friend, dad, and salesmen at Audioking, and Circut City all said the speakers are probibly underpowered and may require an amp (Yes they all did say that.). So I'm doing that first since I have an old one that I can try first. If it still sounds bad (which I am planning on it) Im going with all new "expensive" speakers. Probibly a bad plan but I really don't care anymore. Now I'm just waiting for a good rain free day that Im not working to install my amp. I have been waiting a week for a good day to do it but none yet. It looks like next Thursday will be my best bet. I'll check back then.

Well I yesterday I installed my 22watt amp to my two 6x9 rear speakers. It sounds alot better. There is no distortion at high volume levels with alot of bass added. This morning I put the finishing touches by adding a toggle switch to turn on and off the amp from inside the car. The grand total cost of adding a amp and a toggle switch was $6.32. Not bad I guess. I had most of the parts necessary for the install just had to buy some mounting hardware, some wire and a toggle switch. Yeah Im cheap.
Since my amp splits 2 channels into 4 in the rear, I have 2 open channels. I am thinking I can use those and then put a second amp back there and then two cheap 10" subs. It can be my budget super sound system.

if you are still looking for new door speakers front or rear, then you can pick up a damn good set of pioneers for only $150. If you want a 4 way speaker instead of a 3 way or 2 way then 4 ways will be about $50 more!....Or if you wanted insainly loud then you can spend $1,500 on a set of 2- 4way focal component speakers....I don't know where (KatWomen) was looking at speakers but that place is WAAAYYY too expensive!!!!!.....if I were you I would get a cheap pair of 10 or 12 inch JL woofers...10 inch about $99 and 12 inch will run you about $120
