I went to home depot to get some enamel paint thinner today for some airbrushing. I asked the lady if i coudl use the eye dropper i had to get small amounts, she said no cuz the thinner will eat the plastic. I was wondering what coud i use to get small amounts out of the jug? Its like a 3 sumthing litre jug so pouring is out of the question lol, what do you guys use?

A funnel.
I got lucky and found a dispenser cap for soy sauce (that comes in the same gallon cans as thinner) that snaps on to the spout and allows easy pouring even into Model Master bottles... - Mark |

Re: How do you guys get small amounts of paint thinner?
I got syringes from my fiance. No we're not junkies - she's a nurse. They're plastic too and I've had no melting problems.
Can't see why you can't use an eyedropper seeing as it's just the 'handle' which'll be rubber. |

Plastic pipettes. Hobby stores should have them in the paint section, and medical supply stores probably carry them, too.

Re: How do you guys get small amounts of paint thinner?
Scale-Master: wow that is lucky, hmm maybe i should look into getting
Sticky-Fingers: The eye droppers i use are fully plastic, so thats y ic ant use. I went to walmart to see if they have syringes, they had em but no needles, if they had the needles than that would been perfect, and what kinda thinner do you use? 008 - I have those, those are fully plastic, i doubt they will work cuz they will melt Right now looks liek my best options is the syringes, the plastic on em is much thicker and a diff type, more resistant to melting. I does anyone know where i can get the needles to with em?

Glass droppers shouldn't be too hard to find- I got mine at the local grocery store.
Speaking of small amounts of thinner, though- Testors makes their own thinner to go with MM paints, that will give you much better results than brand X thinner from the local hardware store. More expensive, but woth it.

Re: How do you guys get small amounts of paint thinner?
Testors and Humrols thinners are sold in larger quantities than the small glassjars. My local hobbyshop sell Humbrols in 200ml tincans..
I have never had any problems with these enamelthinners attacking plastic.. And finally,to get that thinner up; Some sort of syringe should u be able to get from a paintstore/pharmacy/artsŽnŽncraft store ?? Last resort: Start dating a nurse ( she can get u big quantities of "surgeon gloves" too. Mine does )

Re: How do you guys get small amounts of paint thinner?
We use the cheap plastic pipettes on thinner and have never had a problem.

I think the Testors brand thinner is way overpriced, to the point of gouging. I have great luck with Home Depot lacquer thinner for everything... - Mark

I'm not sure what the right 'wrong' thinner for MM enamels is...
Regular hardware store enamel thinner didn't work well for me though. MM/Testors airbrush thinner works very well and even the 1.75oz bottle lasts me several months. You can poor un-used thinned paint back into the bottle too, while if you use another thinner it will most likely cause the paint in the bottle to separate or turn to un-usable gooo.

If the thinner is so strong that it will eat pipettes, I hate to think what it will do to your models. On the other hand, I think the lady at Home Depot is absolutely clueless.
Forget the Home Depot lady, listen to modelers who know what they're talking about from actually using the products...008, 99civichic and Scale Master, their advice is perfect. Plastic pipettes are made from a plastic that is impervious to thinners, both enamel and lacquer. The lacquer thinner you can buy at Home Depot is the best thing ever for Testors enamels. Testors thinner is ridiculously overpriced and slow to dry. The lacquer thinner is perfect for cleaning up your airbrush from lacquers, enamels, and even some acrylics like Tamiya. In fact you can shoot your Tamiya acrylics thinned w/that same lacquer thinner. You can buy a gallon of it for the price of a pint of Testors.
