SR20DET 5th gear rev limit

Figured I'd ask you guys, I've got what I believe is a 3.9 rear diff... and When I mash out in 5th gear it'll top out about 140ish mph... Not exactly sure (too busy driving to look), but I'm hitting what I believe is my 5th gear rev limit.

What RPM is the rev limit? Cause, it pulls like a freight train till you hit the limiter.

Don't know why I never thought to ask you guys sooner... duh.

EDIT: And I could just look down at the tach while I'm driving, but that's not exactly safe... at those speeds I'd like to watch out for pot holes in the freeway. So, I'll ask you... much safer that way.

Re: SR20DET 5th gear rev limit

sit still, put it in 5th with the clutch in and see how high it revs. that'll get you the rpm limit and by measuring your rpms at say 40mph and 80mph you could estimate your top speed. numbers should be proportional

Re: SR20DET 5th gear rev limit

well, by using a simple math calculation using size of the wheel/tire and gear ratio, and RPM I could get exactly what my top speed is....

That's why I asked you guys... plus my car is at the shop getting worked on. So I can't just go and rev the piss outta it.

Re: SR20DET 5th gear rev limit

i don't know... my to speed is 20 mph...and my car revs till 8100 rpm... (f-con, no power after 7100 RPM, the extra 1000 RPM is junk and not safe!)

Re: SR20DET 5th gear rev limit

OMG WTF? he's asking what the speed limiter feels like... not what the gear limited speed is.

The limiter is in 4th (6.5ish) and 5th (5K). its a soft limiter meaning it just dumps fuel until you realize resistance is futile. the car will pull like a train then just hold at 120 (it gets a little louder too from the extra fuel)

...and for good measure

6000 in 5th is 140mph. 7500 is 175 with the stock 4.whatever ring gear. with a 3.9 it will be higher

who are you talking about?

The car physically runs out of gear, I hit redline in 5th gear. I'm trying to establish what the 5th gear rev limit is... seeing as I'm usually a bit busy driving at 140+/-mph to look down.

And when it does hit the limiter, it feels like hitting a brick wall. It's accelerating so fast, that when the fuel cuts out you get thrown forward in your seat... if you're not ready for it (like the first time I did it.) And the RPM's drop to like... Idle... for like 5 seconds... something like that.
