Paint job... Maaco??????

I am wanting to paint my 90 accord mineral grey like on the new mustangs and found out that maaco can do it for like 260 bucks has anybody ever got their car painted there and how was it or does anybody have any opinions on them? Does anybody know of any places that are a chain that do a good job for not to much money? And if anybody could photoshop a mineral grey paint job on a 4th gen accord that would help.

It'll look nice for the first couple of years and then start to fade.

well that paint job doesn't include door jams or trunk or engine so thats part of the reason why its so cheap.

If you are changing the color of your car to the grey -- and its a differant color, like red or blue or some crap... you want to get the entire car sprayed.

And the quality of the work will depend on how it gets done. Some Maaco guys will prep it up nice, others just shoot it the way you bring it... dirt and all, so just find out stuff before you go doing it. Waisting $260 on a crap paint job isnt worth it -- the people that had my car before me went there, and the front bumper is spider webbing and crap, looks gross. Which is why im getting it repainted

Never

Personally, I would never go to Maaco for a paint job. On anything. Sure there might be the odd good painter spread sparatically throughout all the Maaco stores, but it's the other painters. If your going to go get something painted, and you want anything good out of it, expect to pay. Are you building a show vehicle? Or just a really nice daily driver? Either way, in my opinion, don't expect to pay any less that about $2000 for a good, clean and well done paint job. I know from experiance, so trust me...

Well im not exactly building a show car i just want it to have a nice color that nobody has really that looks good cause i just got black widow ground effects and had em painted and the guy who painted them suked at it so they dont look very good and the back bumper is fukin shitty as hell there is like 2 cracks in it and it bows out REALLY bad on both sides and the exhaust doesn't even line up with the opening. So im gonna have to fukin chop it up then fiberglass it and mold it to where it needs to be so i spent 200 bucks on gettin my ground effects painted for nothing. As far as the door jams go and everything in a year or so im probably gonna totally repaint my car a crazy custom color so i just need somethin nice to ride around in now.

Save your money for a year and then just get it done once the right way.

I've seen some really high quality work come out of Macco so you can't really judge it by it's name ... (I work across the street from Macco) ... But the saying "You get what you pay for" is always true, unless you are getting hooked up by a close friend ...

In that case

Well, if your planning on going and getting a better paintjob in the future, my advice would to get your kit fixed properly, moulded on and then just get your car primered and roll with it that way for the rest of the season. It will always keep people guessing, and if you decide to shave your handles, or gas door, or anything like that you can't screw up primer. If you go get a paint job and then decide you want to go further with body mods (and trust me, you probably will) you'll have to get your car painted another time anyway, so primer is a good way to skip the whole process. Also, if you primer your ride, you can take that much omre time to pick out that crazy custom colour you've always dreamed of.

Good luck with it, and hope it turns out for ya...

^ this guy suggested getting your car primered and just 'rolling with it for the rest of the season'...... that is the worst idea i've ever heard..... if you're not going to paint it for a while, why even bother getting it primed????? just leave it like it is until you have enough cash to get it primed AND painted.....terrible idea man......

I have to agree, to get it primered means you are ready to paint it. You roll around with it primered, you are exposing the primer to elements it wasnt designed for and it will effect the finished product. Not to mention, how many times you think your going to get little scratches in it before its time to get painted? If you are saving your money for a GOOD paint job, just keep it t he stock color for now.

BTW. I got quoted $1800 for a stock paint job from a guy, just new white pearl paint on my already white civic hatch -- that includes some minor bodywork I need fixed, and another $800 for some ghost flames

Hold on a second...

The only reason I suggested running primer, is if he had wanted to do any body mods. Yes I know that running primer is not the best idea, but either way you are going to get the car painted right? And in doing so, your going to need to primer it again regardless. If you do run primer, you are going to save money now anyway, because when you go get your car painted, all they have to do is remove the first layer of primer, and start the paint job from there. If you do leave it body colour (and that is a very good idea) you will be paying more when you get it painted because, there will be more labour involved, in stripping the paint, straightening out body panels and such. Also, your insurance will be a little cheaper if you appraise your vehicle while primered because the paint doesn't matter.

All you other guys, if you don't know what you are talking about, or don't understand, don't slam, just ask...

And by the way, I ran my truck in primer for one year, and nothing happened to it at all... When I finally got my truck painted (PPG Arctic White with 40 grams of blue pearl) they didn't have to do anything to my trucks body except give it a wet sand, and degreased it, then layed down another layer of primer and then the paint.

Good luck...

I got quoted $2,400 for painting my car with ghost flames and 3 pearl coats, my cousin will do it for me for $750 plus paint.
