Question B16A Idle issues/sensor locations

Ok, I'm getting an idle issue where the B16A is idling at 1500rpm (and cold idling at 2200rpm). I've replaced all of the vacume hoses with no result and the idle screw on the intake is turned all the way to the right. I'm wondering if the idle sensors are stuffed, but have no idea where they are Does anyone have any idea/schematics/pictures of these (or any idea what might be the issue?

Thanks

Yeah - I might have to drive over there tomorrow - it depends what time I can get off work. Only issue is that I hate looking like an idiot in front of him

heheh - I might take you up on that I was going to go out to Honbits on Saturday to see if I could find the parts, but then realised they're not open on Saturdays anymore and Concorde Wrecking has disappeared. I think there's a place at Moorebank that might have Honda Front cuts

thx Q - will give them a ring - assuming I can isolate the issue to the sensors

OK, after reading through your little private conversation I went and had a look at my car, (have you two considered getting a room? )

Anyway there really isnt that much to them.

On the frount of the TB is a large vacume pot, its does nothing but stop the throttle from slaming shut, and has no effect what so ever on the engine speed.
However you might want to give it a wiggle and a push to make sure it hasnt seized. It its stuck out it will run the car at about 1500rpm.

On the back of the TB is the tps, there is nothing attached to the TB that is designed to control its position.
There is that small brass screw in the top of the TB, but I really have no idea what it controls, and im not keen to play with it. I also found one I got for you sometime ago, put down somewhere and forgot about. Ill throw it in the post asap.

On the fire wall directly behind the TB are two little black things with Vacume lines leading into them. The one on the driverside is the Vacume sensor for the ECU. Disconect the vacume from it and it turns on the check engine light. (I didnt check if it threw a code)
The other one has some control over the cold idle speed!
If you take off the vacume line when the engine is a little warmed up it revs to its totaly cold setting. But removing the line when its hot will have no effect.
It has two lines, one in, and one out. the in comes off the back of the TB. the out line runs to a piece on the back of the fuel rail, that I assume richens the mixture.
My guess is its this Controler that has failed. Ill have to try and see if its the same as any other models, otherwise theres one on the SiR at strongs.
I assume its oil or water temp that is used by the ECU to control it.

There is also a sensor on number 1 runner on the inlet manifold. I cant get one of the screws out (need an impact driver) to find out what its sensing. But I can only guess that it might be air temp?

and I assume you've checked simply things like the throttle cable? its not stuck or binding anywhere?

and, just a finnal comment.

With out any of the intake piping on it screams like a banshee having an orgasim!!!!! :flash:
Throttle response is instint! and I mean instint, it will hit the limiter faster than you can move your hand on the throttle. awsome. really awsome. (and a good way to make the neighbors wonder)
The airbox clearly isnt big enough, nor is the intake pipe big enough.
Its ok at WOT, it must supply enough air then, but it certianly does hold back on the engine responsiveness. Its possible that things change of course when the car is moving, and under load. But im not prepared to drive it with an open TB! and no filter.

Thanks moppie bracer put me onto a complete English B16A manual for the EE8 CRX SiR. You can get it from the downloads section here: http://www.hondacrx.co.uk/

I was told it's the temp powered idle sensor under the manifold that is prolly stuffed. My issue is both cold idle and it idling at 1500-2000 when hot.

I may have to replace the throttle body as the fast idle unit in there has been messed with and it can only be fixed at the factory. Second hand is 220 bucks for the throttle body and 75 bucks for the idle unit.

Ouch.

I'm assuming that the 2G 'teg B16A is the same as ours - if not I'm stuffed.

Can you PM me your address details as I need to send you the cash for the idle control screw. I keep on forgetting about it

Interesting about the lack of intake making a difference as I found a CAI unit made no more power than the stock box with Jamex/Finer Filter insert.

TB should be the same. Infact in sure its exactly the same.

About the intake, you have to remember i was revving it with out any load on. Adding the weight of the car to it would mute the trootle response quite a bit.
As well as the fact that a CAI contains almost as much piping as the stndard system does. It just collects the air from a differnt spot.
