Exhaust Questions...

im kind of a newbie at modding v8's and have a few questions.

first of all i have an 05 GT and im going to put a steeda CAI on it. and im also looking at doing something with the exhaust. i dont want to have to do the full exhaust change so im looking for more of a catback or axleback system. i found the slp loudmouth axleback.

i was wondering what kind of hp you guys think i could gain from the axleback and CAI. also, the loudmouth doesnt have mufflers on it, so is it going to pop very annoyingly everytime i let up on the gas? or should i go with a muffler?

thanks in advance

Re: Exhaust Questions...

None unless you tune it. Tuned you should pick up 7-10hp.

Look into a JTL CAI kit.

The stock 235 tires are a bit skinny, get some meat in the back

Re: Exhaust Questions...

I have an Exhaust Question I have a 98 Cobra and need to know if i put an off road X pipe on my car with original 40's Flows would that screw my engine and lose HP? if so what options do I have. I live in CA and dont care about Cops. would a system like this be loud and proud. or would it just draw unwanted attention?

Re: Exhaust Questions...

I hate flows!

I would run Borla, Bassini(sp), or Magna Flow.

Straight through design is a lot better than chambered.

Re: Exhaust Questions...

Ight i do two things i will answer your ? and also provided u with infomation on the 6 things u can do to ur 05 to make it a 12.45 (1/4 mile) capable stang.
The slp loud mouth has resinators on it basicly staight though mufflers with little resistence. We have had many descussions on this forum about slp some like it some dont. the slp will be very loud and will be very deep i dont think its very popy but some disagree. u will pick up some hp not alot but alittle.
now the 6 things u can do to your car to make it a 12.45 stang.
1. Superchips Xcalibrator (steeda sells this)
2.MagnaFlow exhaust
3.steeda underdrive pulleys
4.QA1 shocks
5. Ford Racing 4.30 gears
6. mickey tompson E/T Street tires.
Now of these u should be able to install the exhaust underdrive pulleys and the computer turner. the Shocks you must likly could do but takes some work but it u follow instructions and all u should be able to handle it. the gears are professional only you will need a pro to install these bc they have to be perfect. estmated cost is 400 dollers to 450. (gears) Also these gears are very steep and i wouldnt recomend them for a street car so if ur going to swap gears in the furture go with 3.73 or 4.10. Gears are in the readend of your car (axle area) they are a torque mutiplyer and they allow u to spin though the rpms faster= faster times. think of it as a bike. u know when u are in 1st gear u can take off real fast but u have to change gears pretty quick but u ever ride a bike in be in 7th gear or 10 etc and its hard to pedal and its hard to take off on ur bike but once u get going u can ride faster in 10th then 1st. same thing the steeper the gear (higher the value example 4.10 is steeper then 2.73) the faster u accelerate but it takes away from your topend.
i personaly think u should buy the slp exhaust or the magnaflow (i love both) and the superchips Xcalibrator bc the xcal unlocks about 15 rwhp! (someone is going to say bs bc noramly chips dont add hp but ford had the computer close the thottle blade during shifts and it also shuts power off during agressive driving)
i agree that u should get some bigger meat in the back too.
U can also take the emissions filter out of ur air/intake tract. "this emissions filter just screams restriction. pulling it out of the intake tract was worth approximately 2 rwhp. its designed to capture the spent gases escaping from the intake when it isn't running." taken from Muscle mustang and fast fords as is all my data in this post. so there is my 2 cents i know u came interested in just exhaust but its a addiction your must likly gonna want more and i am just trying to point u in a good direction.

so you think i should do the slp. would you go straight through or mufflers? its the loudmouth or the powerseries?? i think thats the name. i do want it to be loud, but i cant stand when it sounds like a ricer with a can. thats what i dont want.

also, i cant find that JTL CAI

Re: Exhaust Questions...

the slp loudmouth exhaust is "straight though muffler/resenatior" for example flowmaster mufflers have bends in thenthe exhaust twist and turns though the muffler. but slp and mangnaflow are baiscly a round muffler with a stright though pipe inside with holes and fiberglass to further reduce the sound alittle

The + signs are the insulation or fiberglas and the path in the middle is where the exhaust flows.

well i went to slponline.com and it looks like the loudmout kit is a kit to convert to straight pipes and the powerflo has the mufflers.
go to www.mustangexhaust.com register as a member and u will be able to hear sound clips check the slp and magnaflow clips and see which one u like best.

THANK YOU SKYLINE!!!! No flow is "loud and proud" might as well get a couple glasspacks while you are at it. To add to Skyline, Spintech also makes custom mufflers to fit your needs. The two mufflers that i have whipped my head at are Magna Flows and Bassani. Magna has a clean old style sound to it, and the Bassanis have a newer rod sound to them. I didnt mention Spintech because not many people buy them. But i did and i will definately buy from them again! If anyone else buys spintech let me know what you think of them.

The SLP uses resonators and it crackles and pops like crazy on LS1's to 4.6's.... Some people love it but since you kinda mentioned that I would stay away from them.
