C5 vette vs 95-96 cobra

my dad let me take the vette out tonight, first time since he got it back
its 10 at night so i go pick up my buddy and cruisin.

after leaving a club scene a new porche turbo pulls up on the side. young looking guy so i look at him, give him a smerk and look forward. light goes green and he doesnt bite. oh well
thought the night was dead so i droped off my buddy at like 2 in the morn. i jump on the freeway and there's some kids in a cobra. not sure on the year but its the 95 ish body style. so could have been anywhere from what.... a 94-98?
so they zoom by me and i thought, why not. havent raced in like 6 months. i catch up to them and they see me coming and they pucnh it.
i punch it just enough to catch up to them and stay even.
now i have a thing with doing this, i stay even with them, though there at full throttle. they guy in the passenger seat looks like the happiest man alive. you can read his mouth.

"HELL YEAH FUCKIN GO MAN"

finally i punch it and just take like 4 cars in a matter of seconds. at 130mph i shut down.
the cobra pulls up and there just happy to have raced a corvette. yelling "HELL YEA, YOU FUCKING ROCK DUDE"

i slow down to normal pace, and head home.
thinking to myself. "hey, i finally have something to post in the racing section"
lol

Re: C5 vette vs 95-96 cobra

C5's are like snacks for me. I want to race some C6's!!!

I found out the hard way today that I REALLY need a clutch. Went to the track, and my trap speeds are about right, but I can't launch correctly without getting a TON of slipping from the stock clutch. 14.108 at 105.23 MPH.

Re: C5 vette vs 95-96 cobra

whats your regular time? cause eating them like snacks is hard to do. running high 12's is a pretty fast car. if your eating them like snacks, what are you running without the bad clutch, 12.6?

Re: C5 vette vs 95-96 cobra

Well, I run 5800 feet above sea level.
Stock C5's run around 14.5 at 101MPH.
Right now on this crap clutch, I run 14.1 at 105. I haven't had a problem with a C5 in a while. The Z06's put up a much better fight.

As much as I hate to use the adjustments for my altitude, and what I could run with a good clutch.....
I bet on a very nice racing day, with a good clutch, and sea level, I could pull off around a 12.4 at 113.

Re: C5 vette vs 95-96 cobra

nice, a way to tell the years of the 94-98 Mustangs, are the 94-95 Mustangs have the horizontal tail lights, and the 94-95 Cobra's didnt come with the bulged hood (It came with a regualr GT hood). The 96-98's had the vertical tail lights, and the Cobras had the scooped hood. 94-95's also had the 5.0, and 96-98's had the 4.6..

Re: C5 vette vs 95-96 cobra

Aren't dads the coolest? I like taking my dad's 3KGT out for a run. Really, due to my past driving experiences, I can't legally touch any of my parents cars. I had to sign a waiver. But every now and then, when my mom's outta town, my dad let's me take his car out. Which isn't very often. Maybe once every 4 or 5 months. Still have yet to race him either. But yeah, how does your VR4 compare to your dad's vette?

Also, sounds like a fun race. I probably would have done the same as the kids in the Cobra. Even if I'm in my Civ and I see a car that I know will kill me, I atleast try to get a run with them, ya know, just to see how fast they really are. Good kill. L8...

wtf? so vr4's would be running like a 15 flat at your track, and viper srt-10 would run like a 13 flat when its usauly a 11.8 second car. lol that sounds insane. what track is this you go to? in what city?

what mods you got? i'm getting interested in your car

my vr4 beats the vette in the beginning, and even through a 1320, but up top he edges me out a little. this was before the carbon fiber hood and the racing clutch.

Track is Bandimere Raceway. Outside Denver, CO in Morrison. Track altitude is 5860 feet above sea level.
Your VR-4 would be better off than an N/A car up here. Boost helps a ton. They say that most boosted cars lose a half second running here, and most N/A cars lose a full second. It really depends on the day. And those are rough numbers. I have heard of guys running 1.4 seconds better off the moutain.
Here is my clip from yesterday....Like I said rolling off the line.
http://www.knighthawkvideos.com/mrluos/track1.wmv

The car is a cam'd LS1 car. Stock heads, full exhuast. Most bolt-ons, no tuning.

Correction factors...
http://www.nhra.com/tech_specs/altitude.html
Actual times = 14.108 at 105.23
Adjusted using bottom chart = 13.08 at 113.36
And like I said, terrible clutch.

Once my new motor is in, okay. They would probably still beat be, but not by much.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

I have a SPEC Stage 5 sitting on my kitchen table.
Just don't see the point in installing it now, seeing as I will have the motor out here in a couple months.
