Drain plug in a TC; why not?
Why hasn't anyone designed a drain plug into a Torque Converter? Too much pressure at high RPMs?
I think it would be darn handy since pulling the pan only gets about a third of the fluid.

Most cars used to have this feature.
My '67 Lincoln (with a Ford C6 trans) had this feature. My '68 T-Bird (with the same trans model ) does not, as far as I know. It's a great idea, but I think they were excluded for cost and reliability reasons. By the late 60's manufactureres were looking to extend service intervals, including owners manuals were recommending not changing the trans fluid and filter for the life of the car (except for 'servere service' use) So, why have a drain plug if the manual says you never have to use it? They many have thought these drain plugs are rarely used, may cause leaks and cost a few cents more to install, so they could be eliminated. All cars used to have drain plugs for gas tanks, another useful feature that was eliminated at about the same time |
