Cool strangest mod to an RC car?

OK, what is the strangest mod you've ever made to an RC car.

i made one into an RC boat.

Re: strangest mod to an RC car?

I tried to put 4 wheel disk brakes (from a 1/5) on my 1/8 buggy, but i had no way of affordably machining the new drive hubs so i gave up.

Put some of my truck A-Arms on a pan car and try to make it a lifted stock car.

well after putting in my immense sum of $5, it can reach about 50cm/sec

or 0.5 metres/sec, 0.03km/h or 0.019mph

it was built from scrap, car had buggered diff, so it became direct drive, to a propellor (the driveshaft is a mix of the old rear axle, and a shrink wrap plug connector).

the hull is plywood and gutter seal

the packing box (thing that stops the driveshaft leaking water in) is a penlid with rubber in it

rudder is a coke can that i smashed until it was flat.

and the prop is scratch built by me. (coffee tin flattened, cut into circle, hole drilled in centre, cut slits about 2/3 in, bend with pliers)

it's actually pretty fun, i'll get pics of it in "action"

oh yeah: it's got a two speed engine!!!!!! (go, and go faster)

I like the boat. I have another possibly "stranger" mod to an r/c car. This was a Toys-r-Us special that I built a custom belt drive gearbox for - I loaded in a Mabuchi 550 motor (from a "power wheels jeep", no less) - and fed it with 19.2 volts! -it was sick and twisted- and never really became a true r/c...as I could never steer it. It threw the tires off though and my son thought it was cool...lol.
here it is (at the bottom of the thread under "sarbjr138":

Re: strangest mod to an RC car?

Strangest was to use those MIP boost bottles. All it did was take away power.

I had 'howard the duck' as the driver of my rc10 truck years ago.
It was just the head, a candy container from when the movie was out.
All the 'pros' thought it was stupid, while the kids thought it was cool.

Re: strangest mod to an RC car?

Lights on my x-mod. They fucking drained my batteries....I ended up frying the resistors when I tried to go 8 cell.

I rarely touch my xmod any more, my TT-01 is not my best buddy.

Re: strangest mod to an RC car?

my friend's old kyosho car was a bit more powerful than stock, his brother has a company that builds race cars, and he made a custom turbo with wastegate and BOV but it was prone to problems since it wasnt the easiest turbo to make and it gave up and broke about a month after being installed. it had the front drivshafts removed for rear wheel drive only, but it kept spinning out on sharp bends, neither of us can drive R/C cars to save our lives..... he sold the car on ebay a while ago.
