Putting Fujimi Wheels on Tamiya Hubs

See topic

How hard is it to do this? Tamiya rims are little sticks that stick into the hole in the brake disk, how do Fujimi wheels work? I am thinking of ordering some aftermarket wheels from HLJ for an undisclosed project

For my project i want to release a range of wheels, as u probably know!? the plan is to have them compatible with both types of hubs, to do this what i am doing is having them made so that they are like the fujimi wheels i.e with the tubular molding on the back that the polycap fits into. in order for the same wheel to fit the tamiya hub there will be a seperate 'peg' which i can only describe as being the stick u mentioned with a disc at the bottom forming a base. This peg will be put in place of the polycap into the tube at the back of wheel and stuck hard with a strong adhesive such as superglue or preferably epoxy cement as it will need to be tough. Once the peg is stuck, the tube that it now rests in can be ground down with a motor tool flush with the base of the peg.

Its all yet to be tested out and refined, but hopefully it should work!!!

flyonthewall: Interesting, can't wait, the preview photo you showed in your other topic looked smashing But have you ever put Fujimi rims on Tamiya hubs before, and is it hard?

Hasegawa does their wheels like Tamiya; Revell does their wheels like Fujimi...

I cut the tyres like I said, and the inner side walls are a bit choppy, but more or less ok... The tread pattern just looks a-symmetrical. No biggie.

The wheels themselves are the pain. Hasegawa's wheels are "male" and the Revell wheels are "female." So, I thought I could use a bit of plastic dowel (or toothpick, as is standard of wheel mods! ) in between the female Revell wheel and the female Hasegawa hubs. Unfortunately, that makes the wheels stick out to much. I guess the Hasegawa hubs are made to fit right up against the inner backsides of the wheels. So, I have to cut the little female nub off of the insides of the Revell wheels, but most of my tools are too big to get in there... :o So what I'm going to try is to use successivly larger drill bits to open up the hole until I've taken away all the wall around it. Then just stick the dowel stricht to the wheel backside, but really, I'll probably have to glue the wheels onto the hubs to keep them there...

I guess putting my Fujimi TE37's on my Tamiya R34 isn't going to be a walk in the park.
