Angry Unable to open hood

I have a 1996 Explorer XLT 5.0L AWD. I go to pull my hood latch lever under the steering wheel and nothing. Either the cable is broken or has come loose somewhere. Any suggestions on how to get my hood open? I'm tempted to call my insurance roadside emergency service and see if they can open it. Any thoughts I'd appreciate it. Thanks everyone.

Re: Unable to open hood

For my dads 91, we had to lay on our back and get out the extensions and unbolt the hood latch. Should be 2 bolts. Then it should pop open then you have to put the cable back on the latch thing.

Thumbs up Re: Re: Unable to open hood

Thanks s10blazerman4x4. I'll see what I can do. Don't have any extensions, may have to go get some. Thanks for the input.

Does your handle have any resistance or not? If it does then you may need to pull very hard. If that works then you will need to use some WD-40 to loosen up the cable.

If you look up under the grill to the latch, you will see where the cable goes into latch. You can use a long screwdriver or prybar to move the cable and latch to open it.

Hey way2old, you are right on! I actually looked at a co-workers Explorer before I read your comments and found that same latch. Looks like a long screwdriver will do the trick. Thanks for your reply!
