got smoked by base 1989 plymouth laser/talon

I decided to go into town tonight . on my was a blue base model 1989 plymoth laser was harassing and trying to get cars to race him . he rools up to me i look at my freind in the passenger seat he and i boath say "lets waste him " i decided to drop to 4th instead of 3rd (first time ive ever done this intersate raceing i always use 3rd ) anyway i toy wit him a little and then he gets a huge run on me and begings to go by me i then see a minivan mergeing on the interstate and we are closeing on it in excess of 100mph the minivan was in his lane so im like "ok hes gonna slow down as he is still beside me" (only front 3 feet of his car ahead) as we run up to the van i back off a little as i dont like going fast by slow moving cars 25 feet from the van he veers into my lane at 110 i slam on the brakes and veer left farther almost into the snow covered ditch . i saved that dumb bastards life as he misses me by 1 foot . i pulled off the road a mile later as his actions shook me up so bad . i cant stop thinking about that minvan and if i didnt give the laser enough room he would hit the van at 110 im sure doing great harm to the innocent family behind the wheel or worse he would have clipped my nose and went flipping into the ditch at 110 basicly if it werent for my actions someone would have died and if it werent for my actions wanting to race it wouldnt have happend in the first place .looked at a 2000 silverado 4x4 tonight afterwards i think i might get a truck as the infiniti is makeing me think im superman , maybe a peice of crap will slow me down and make me think.

also does anyone have numbers on the 89 base plymoth laser/talon/eclipse? just cant belive how fast it accelerated
my buddy said it had 16valve written on the side but it had wheel covers and no rear spoiler so i dont think it was a turbo but it accerated hard to 110

#1 go to third when raceing starting at 55 mph
#2 know who is in the other lane
#3 just dont do it in the first place

It's all good. I got beat by a friggin stock (from all the more I saw of it) Ford Focus. :o

I was doing my regular "I'm a scary teenager with a noisy/fast start off all traffic lights" impersonation, when he pulls up next to me. So since we were just playing at who could get off on the better start, I beat him off the first line. (I won't fully race b/c if I get caught, I can't afford the fine let alone the insurance increase) So at the second line, feeling quite proud, I decide to play with my CDplayer to get in the groove. Yeah, then the light turned green when I wasn't looking, and he took off while I made a very pitiful attempt to catch up. So, um, yeah, he was pretty well gone and that's my story of how a stupid Ford Focus beat me... :o

stock they are about 140 HP and if it was a 1990 (first year they made the DSM cars) there is just no way it could have that much power in the 100's unless it had a turbo....

It might have been a 1990 Laser FWD Turbo, those cars look a little different than the Talon/Eclipse and also look like a piece of junk even WITH the turbo...the Laser didn't have to come with a spoiler to have a Turbo....I have seen a Laser just like the one you mentioned with no wheels and spoiler with a turbo...


dont feel to bad...the turbo is stock around 200 HP properly tuned...

so it was a turbo , i couldnt belive how quick it was . well i dont feel bad at all about him getting ground on me . ill definalty think twice about running against a DSM untill i get that DET .

Those cars w/ turbos fly, u shoulcn't ahve even had a chance. I watched one come in second in a series of spectator drags including over 100 cars. About lesson 5- my brakes are awful. They never have and never will be any good. I drove a Jetta and a Mercedes C-class and kept stopping short cause they are so much more responsive than my car.

It most likely was had a turbo if it smoked you bad. You can really tweak those to the fwd w/ stock turbo version. The way you can tell is when it takes off at the line the rear end of the car will slam down as if someone is jumping on the rear bumper then it just takes off. Great sleeper car, like vw bugs w/ old porche engines.

i didnt need that imput if you read the post i already had remose for what i did, the main reason i put it in here is for people to read it and maybe learn from my stupid mistake(also to find out what the hell that car was) . #2 there is no track around here and i think thats why i get constantly harrassed by every peice of crap that rolls by me my car isnt riced out or anything its almost bone stock yet everyone is trying to play fast and the furious i was getting sick of it and decided to shut one of them up unforetuenatly i picked the wrong car/wrong day , only raced 3 times here and every time its been someone who wouldnt go away . as a card carrying member of the Sports Car Club of America i am usualy very anamate about takeing it to the track but im still young, very stupid sometimes and drive a car that tricks me into thinking its something its not .

Remorse is great, but it doesn't bring people back from the dead when they get plowed into by a speeding car.

I'm glad that you realize what you did was stupid. However; as an SCCA member, you really should have known better. Hopefully this is a lesson learned.

I'm glad you're okay and that nothing tragic happened. I just have very little sympathy (or tolerance) for people who race on the street.
