so ticked off
So, im working on my ford mocus and i want to detail paint some things. I Shook my flat black paint (model masters) and then open and stir with a toothpick and the paint has hardened in the bottle! I always close my paint and make sure the cap is clean and snug. So i don't get why this ishappening. I went back to my paint box and picked out my revell flat black(like 3 years old), shook it, stired it and it was fine and the cap is worse than the new paint. Does this happen to anyone else or is it just something im doing wrong?

Re: so ticked off
it happend to a couple of my flat black paints this past month to, but mine was the basic testors, not model masters. The older flat blacks were just fine, but the new ones dried up.

Re: so ticked off
I saw someone here at AF that stored his paint bottles upside down to prevent them from drying out. It's a bummer when this happens, so maybe this tip can help in the future.

Re: so ticked off
Make sure that the little cardboard circle remains in the cap. This helps seal the bottle and everytime i lose one the paints dry up very quickly. If this is not your problem then it sounds like you got a bunk batch of paint.

Re: so ticked off
That happened to a lot of my dad's Floquil paints. They also leak if you leave them on their side too long. Heh.
Sorry to hear about the problem, btw. |

Re: so ticked off
I hate when you drop a model, after being buffed, on the cement. Then chipping the front fender paint. (happened about 20minutes ago)

Not a new thing...
The best thing you can do is be sure to keep the bottle top (sealing surface) clean. On paint colors that I keep open a lot I always a drop or two of thinner before I close them up. I used to hate throwing the little bottles away, but unless your working against a deadline or are a long way away from a hobby shop it just gives you an excuse to visit your LHS.

Re: so ticked off
Really need to keep both the lid and jar paint free before screwing back on.

Re: so ticked off
This happens to my paints all the time, no matter how well I seal them back up. I think it is related to newer paint formulations to reduce the volatile components. Another case of the government saving us from ourselves. Bastards.
