Mileage

On most used cars I've seen, the mileage is somewhere in the 120,000+ miles range.

How many miles is just too much to have on a used car? I'm looking to spend a maximum of $5000, but I know the pricing of a car varies from brand and features.

I'm just wondering what mileage count I should set out to buy? For sure not 200K+ miles

Re: Mileage

Completely depends on the car. You could have a 2000 mile 1976 chevy vega for $5000 or a 200,000 mile BMW 5 series. Both will probably give you the same reliability.

What are you looking for in a car?

I was looking into either a 1995 Infiniti J30, 1998 Infiniti I30, or a Lexus ES300 or a Lexus LS400.

Those are the cars I currently have on my list to go check out this weekend.

Re: Re: Mileage

well, if you are looking at only luxury cars for $5000, you are only going to find high mileage on them.

but as for how many miles are too many miles, it really depends on how the car was maintained, ive heard of lexus and infiniti cars pushing 150k+ easily, and then ive heard of them not making 100k miles, it really depends on how taken care of the car is.

Used BMW

Don't go for a used BMW, their parts are so expensive -
more then $1000 for a single rear shock absorber with hydraulic hight adjustment. Go for Lexus, ES300 is equal to Camry, at least it's cheaper
to maintain. As of mileage, it's not recommended to go for anything with more than 150,000 miles, according to
http://samarins.com/buying/index.html.
