My Project

This is the pic of my car after my first wreck, i replaced the passenger side door, along with the fender and patched up the bumper.. Decided to paint the entire bottom half black?? why.. i dont know, creative thinking
This is only my second paint job, the first to tackle by myself.
And the first ENTIRE car

17": 825$
Paint: 220$
Bumper: 250$ with shippp
Time: ALOT

The prep work took me 2 weeks, while working part time job and spending a lil time with girlfriend.

The back of the car is just the base coat.. no clear =)
MACK Blue PPG paint with OMNI clear.

Re: My Project

I like the masking job with the newspaper, it gives it a nice touch. lol its good that you know how to paint your own cars. My dad paints airplanes, so I kinda grew into it. Send some finished pics when your done.

Geeesh... i feel miserable. The base coat was perfect all around. I get to the clear and my gun starts jamming, but before i realised it was clogging at the tip i had adjusted the gun settings up.. (pressure and trigger feed) I get so Mad, I cant get a good wet coat of clear.. I take a rag and simply wipe the tip of the gun with the trigger pulled, then i start spraying. WOW its going on so fast and so goood its just too good to be true.. 3 min later, i look closer. RUNS GD RUNS ALL OVER MY PASSENGER DOORS.

Now i readjust the gun correctly and finish the job on the hood and driver side doors, continuously wiping the end of the gun to unclog it.

Im stuck with this crap on my doors until the next day.

I take 320 grit and drysand the %$^# out of it, back down to the blue. I then use 400 grit wetsand the doors and its lookin good again. Now I am able to respray and clear..

The finished product looks good man!!! Nice work for your second paint job. Did you research and teach yourself how to paint?

Re: My Project

Be carefull when masking with newspaper, in the right conditions it can leak through. Like when its pressed flat against a flat surface and then soaked in paint.

I saw a racing stripe job go bad cause they used newspaper

lol yeah there is a spot on the top of the driver side window, 8 inches or so.. looks like overspray but really hard to see it. probly went through like u said.

Its still unfinished but im lazy. ill get to it soon.. door trunk & gas areas. The sideskirts. The stock spoiler for the back.

well after that, ill hide my fart can (sorry for all those who have it, im just tired of it.) want to replace it with some sort of high flow muffler right behind my magmaflow converter.

if i win the lottery, 3000$ or more ill buy a turbo lol

Re: My Project

It has to soak through, not spray through, if it did soak through then it will look REAL NASTY.

Newspaper is ok at times, just dont use it when its gonna be pressed against something.
