Looking for some info
I’m considering picking up a 2 or 3 yr old Monte sometime soon as a daily driver/family car. I’m concerned with why the Monte doesn’t seem to hold its value worth a darn. Are there any known problems with the car that I should know about such as engine, brakes or electrical gremlins? I kind of like the car but I’d also like to know what to look out for. Thanks.

Re: Looking for some info
A good way to get a "feel" for any problems that the Monte has would be to look through the threads on this forum. At the main page of the Monte Carlo forum is a search box to search the forum for a specific word or phrase. Typing a word like "brakes",or a phrase like "problems with engines" would direct you to specific threads of problems posted by forum members. I have seen on other forums including this one some reasons for poor resale values. First off, GM is still going through problems with how they handle customer complaints. It all starts at the dealer, and when someone has a problem that is unresolved, they tell their friends and so on.There is also the issue of poor intake gaskets on the 3.4 engine and other GM engines.I'm sure other members will post some of the common problems, and you can search from there.

i dont think the intake probs are in the new montes. with gas climbing, im sure 4 cyl engines are more popular although i get great miliage outa my car. around my place in w pa, a monte we ll say 3 or 4 yrs old w average miliage goes for 10 grand or so. many stripped down versions go for only 16 grand brand new. so i dont think its that bad for a mid size resale.ill tell you 1 thing, put some meaty treads on these things and they ll go anywhere as long as they dont drag the undercarriage. i have a feeling these body styles will become a classic someday. every kind of car will have demons but hope you dont get one of them duane
