Help with B303 Camshaft install
Just got a Brand new B303 Cam off ebay for 100.00. Need some help. I will be installing it with a set of E7 Power Heads, 1.7 Crane Rockers and a Tmoss ported upper and lower intake. I have everything except the intake will be getting it next pay week.
Question Should I install the cam straight up, or 4 degrees advanced. What is the benefits and draw backs of each installation i.e. Straight up, or advanced. I also have a 5 speed with 3:55 gears. Thanks in advance |

No way to really know without testing out each way on a dyno or finding some1 who has your exact combo no variations at all.
There is no general rule of cam timing as to which makes more power. Many people will say advance is better but this is def not always true. Also wit advancing the cam you can create piston to valve interference. You prob wouldn't have this problem wit ya set-up but no way to know for sure unless you spec-ed it out or some1 has done teh sam exact thing. I would just install it straight up maybe your losing some power you could gain but it's at least safe.

Re: Help with B303 Camshaft install
Like what GTStang said, just install it and be done with it, unkess you have it on a dyno to see what your power band is doing, you really do not know how it will affect your engine's marriage.

Re: Help with B303 Camshaft install
Generally advancing your cam by 4* will lower your rpm range by 200 rpms. Then straight up will leave it at the listed rpm range. Also retarding your cam by 4* will generally raise your rpm band by 200 rpms. Now, this is all according to general statistics put out by several different cam manufacturers. But like the others have said there is no way to really know for sure until you get on the dyno. But yes straight up is your best bet. Also if you look at your cam card it may say that your cam has been ground 4* advanced which is pretty common for street cams. Good luck, and make sure the engine will turn over by hand without any interference before you put the intake back on.

Re: Help with B303 Camshaft install
Considering the B303 is already ground on 5* of advance, I'm going to go ahead and say NO to installing it advanced 4*.
