Talking Had a run in with a GTO.

My friend from MI decided to spend a few days here since Im on spring break right now. She hasn't seen the contour since its gotten the 3.0L swap and turbo kit, so I decided to take her for a ride tonight. First run in was with a Hyundai Tuscani, which is the Asian model of the Tiberon. Not sure if it was the real deal or just a Tiberon badged as a Tuscani. Regardless, he did the fly by and I caught up and blew right past him. I slowed down and matched his speed and about 20 mph and hit it from there. Put a few cars lengths on him almost immediately. I shut it down around 80 mph.

Next run in was with a Pontaic GTO. It was silver and some kid was driving it by himself. I again dropped it in second and we were both cruising at about 40 mph. We both hammered it at the same time and I jumped ahead a couple feet. By 3rd gear, he gained what i jumped on him and we were both even. Shifted to 4th and we were both doing about 110 mph and nobody was gaining. I figured it was time to shut it down considering it was a 45 mph zone. Not sure who would have won if we kept going, but it was a good race considering it has 350 hp and almost half the displacement. By the looks of how he shifted, it appeared to be a manual. Both runs were done on 4 psi as usual. I really need to put my boost controller back on.

Re: Had a run in with a GTO.

I would have loved to see the look on the GTO drivers face when a Contour was running side by side with him

Nice races..

Good kill. Hanging with a GTO from a roll is no easy task.

Re: Had a run in with a GTO.

Nice races. You were at 4psi eh? Thats defiantely a plus for hanging with a GTO. BTW what do you normally run with the boost controller installed?

Re: Had a run in with a GTO.

Good kill. Your car is a real sleeper. I'd never guess that a contour would have as many mods as you do. Have you taken your car to the track, and if so, what were your times?

I havent taken it to the track since it just got its final tune a couple weeks ago. I havent taken it above 8 pounds yet, but Ive built it for high amounts of boost. (i.e. 8.5:1 Ross Racing pistons, Pauter Rods, pnp heads, etc). I hope to take it up 15-17 psi this summer. Contour's with similar mods and turbo's are putting down ~400 whp, so I hope to do the same.

PS. A guy from over on contour.org posted a for sale in the forced induction branch on here a couple weeks ago. Hes got a 400 whp 2.5L svt contour.

Re: Had a run in with a GTO.

Yep, I saw stock autos running 14.2s, and 13.9s. But I saw a stock manual run a 13.1.

BTW: we're talking about the new GTOs, right?

The old automatic equipped GTO's stunk, but the new one's are definitely quick, and the automatic versions should be no different. To be honest I see almost all automatic equipped cars running better times then the manually different ones. This especially holds true when one has a torque converter and drag radials.

all automatic trans missions have torque converters. . . and no manuals are almost always faster than automatics.

I believe he meant one that is upgraded from the stock converter, different stall and all that.

Auto vs Manual in the GTO I dunno if the stick is that much more faster. From what Pontiac says on their website it has a somewhat more performance oriented torque converter then what you see in the F-bodies so it comes close to the 6-speed. From what I understand that 6-speed isn't as good as the Hurst manual shift in the F-bodies either.

Re: Had a run in with a GTO.

he's talking about an aftermarket torque converter... something with a bit higher stall.

It's the same principal as saying you're going to get a header for your car. It's already got a header, just we don't call the stock header a 'header' it's the exhaust manifold... get it? Kewl.
