Question 98 explorer trany filter

I'm replacing trany filter for first time. Found a plastic float looking thing in the pan when I dropped it. I found a site that said this is a piece left in the pan during assembly. Anybody have similar experience?

That is an assembly plug that was in the base of dipstick housing. Just throw it away and you are fine. Or you can use it as a minature top and play with it.
