Power

I'm trying to hook up my laptop in the car. I figure if I'm going to set up the laptop, as well as add neons and etc., it would be a good idea for me to power it through another battery.

Is this possible? Anyone have a wiring diagram or a guide?

Thanks

Re: Power

according to this thread: http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbul...d.php?t=344202

it would be better to just "upgrade to a more powerful alternator/battery combination."

Re: Power

If you're just adding neons and a laptop, buy a small plug-in inverter and run your laptop all you want. We're talking 1-3 amps for the laptop and maybe 10 for the neon. Your starter draws 250 amps, a stereo draws 3-8 amps depending on the volume. If you were running a large draw item such as a 1000 watt amplifier (which can draw as much as 70 amps intermittently) then I'd upgrade your electrical system.

For the laptop, buy an inverter at WalMart that is capable of sustaining 100 watts. That's enough to support about three laptops.

Install the neon with good wiring and fuses and relays and you'll be fine. You shouldn't leave them all on for more than about hours without running the car, but unless you have an ancient car with a 34-amp generator, go for it. Your car probably has at least a 70 amp alternator and you should be fine.
