My 1988 Corolla Needs HELP!

I just recently bought a 1988 Corolla Sedan and I love it.It gets great gas mileage and I cant wait till I pay off some bills and then I can start modifying it.Although recently some problems have come about...after the car runs for about 10 minutes when driving you go to go around a turn and the car stalls out(mind you the car is automatic) actually it seems to stall out at any speed under 25-30mph anywhere before that 10 minute mark it seems to be random.Any ideas?Another thing is I will be going 55mph and when I let of the accelerator the car seems to kick or "buck" I have no idea what it could be I did the timing and everything seemed to be fine.Any ideas would be great appreciated I just want to get everything running right so I can start adding things to it.

P.S. It has a 4-AF engine if that is important

If you need to ask me any more specific questions I am always on AIM:

crimmee666

Please I Need your HELP!

Thank you sooo much

I've had fuel pumps on other carb'd cars cause similiar problems, including the "jerking". Maybe check throttle return spring also, wouldn't hurt to replace fuel filter either..

I have changed the throttle return spring although it returns fine and then it slows down and completely stops...then it falls back a little more. It's odd I dont know if it is supposed to do that or not. Also I am changing the fuel filter today along with the oxygen sensor so we will see what that will do :?

I am also wondering if anyone will know if the conversion from the 4-AF to a 4-AGZE will be difficult and also is it possible to change my car to 5 speed for under a 1000 bucks?

Thanks for all your help
Eric

You may want to have the distributor unit checked, if it is not sitting properly, you have pressure leaking from the engine head around that area which leads to the engine stalling.
I have a 1989 toyota corolla sprinter (auto transmission) with the same problem, but mine stalls when I hit the brakes for a sudden stop or when you rev up the engine and swiftly remove your foot from the accelerator.
If that doesn't help you may try increasing the engine speed by turning the knob at the back of the carburettor.
You may also be of help to me, whenever I hit my accelerator for a swift take off whiles having the A/C running, the car drags for a couple of seconds before picking up speed. Do you have similar experiences and how can I deal with it?

Many time a temporary stall while accelerating with a carbureted engine is a result of a leaking accelerator pump. See if the pump gives a good shot of gas in the throat when you pump the accelerator pedal.
