strange lock behavior

Well, if anyone has a clue as to what could cause this strange behavior with the electric locks, I would appreciate some guidance.

I'll try not to make this too long.
I have a 1992 Ford Econoline Club Wagon Chateau (van)
The side door which is hinged, not a slider, has no keyhole. It is automatically unlocked by the remote, or when you use the key in the front passenger side door. There is also a feature which turns on the inside lights when you pull on the door handles, even if the van is locked.

The remote works, but the strange thing is, when you pull on the door handle, it will unlock the passenger side doors, no key or remote needed.

Sometimes the door locks will lock and unlock like three times in a row at random times, or sometimes when going over a speed bump.

There is a plunger on the side door, that if you push if in by hand, it makes the locks do the same thing as the above paragraph states. There must be some sensor in this door that is malfuntioning.

One other thing is we had a dry spell and the neighbors were away for about a week, and I had none of these problems. Not that this had anything to do with it, but I thought the dry weather might have.

Also the inside controls usually wont work for unlocking and locking the doors, but they work sometimes.

Sorry for the long answer, but there are a lot of variables. Wish I had opted for the cheaper van with no gadgets now.

I would just disable the lock system, except for that side door with no keylock on it.

If anyone can help it will be considered a small miracle. I have been telling everyone the van is haunted.

In addition, the rear 4 speakers are not working, maybe not related.

Thanks in advance for any help. Tree

Re: strange lock behavior

Well, got the rear speakers working, duh, the dog must have pushed the switch on the rear controls, as that is where he rides.

I can't figure out how to get the trim off the windows in the rear, seem to want to pop off after removing the three screws, comes out about a half inch, then hits a spot, afraid of breaking it, but to check the locks in rear doors have to get this off, thanks, Tree.

Keep pulling gingerly. There is a plastic guide and a metal lock you have to get past.

Re: strange lock behavior

Got the trim off, had to use a pry bar, man those things are tight in there. Course they been on there for 13 years. There was no problem there.

May have fixed the problem, behind the panel on the driver's side 2nd seat (middle row) snapped the panel off and found the memory module, as I wiggled the top plug the locks would respond, cleaned the plug with WD40, as it looked like the pins are aluminum, and had a white sheen on them, and the locks work fine now, but time will tell. Re: strange lock behavior

I've got a 1995 E-150 conversion van with similar strange lock problems. Would this memory module be in the same place on a conversion van (somewhere behind the driver's seat)?

I had the same problem with the locks. The door lock switch on the rear door went bad (corroded I believe), I disconnected it and the problem went away.
