Apparently you have absolutly know knowledge of web hosting. Dont listen to this guy, he doesnt know shit. Any way FTP (File Tranfer Protical) is a great means of transfering files to and from web servers. Here is what you need to do, first do to www.downloads.com and download a free trail version of "Leap FTP" its a pretty small program. Install it. Once this is done just open the program. At the top its gonna ask you for a location to connect to. its usuall ftp.(the domain) for example if you have webspace with Lycos.com the ftp server is called ftp.lycos.com or if your through geocities it woul be ftp.geocities.com if that doesnt work try ftp.users.(domain name) That show Qwest.net works, our FTP server is called "ftp.users.qwest.net"........ Anyway once you have that in there just put your username in for th username, and then put in your password for your webspace. Hit enter. It will then connect to the FTP server and to your webspace. Once this happens it will show all the files that are on your webspace. SImply highlight them all and drag them into the window next to it which displays the files on your computer. Its that easy. Just open Leap, sign on the the server. Adn the drag and drop your files to you computer. Its just like moving files that are on your computer from one folder to the other, just drag and drop. This is why FTP is so great, very simple, very easy, very quick.

What?? you make no sence? WHat the hell does FTP have to do with making webpages??? Its only used for tranfering files. I think you should take your head out of your butt and start making more sence.

Sorry dude, but I have to go with Protek here. FTP is an excellent way of transferring files. All you need is an app like FTP in dos or for the less experianced user, a simple GUI windows FTP client, of which there are many shareware and freeware versions at download.com

You can do some FTP work with a web browser, but I suggest a client, as browsers dont let you resume a broken transfer.

Incase you didnt know an Image tag in HTML looks like this

<img src='car.gif'> That is what your Tag would look like if the car.gif image is uploaded to the same webserver that your website is on.
However if it is not uploaded to the server and is actually on an outside web source then the tag would look like this instead.

<img src='http://www.automotiveforums.com/car.gif'>

now FTP would have nothing to do with that at all.
however you could Use ftp to transfer the car.gif file from the AF.com site and put it on your webserver. But you could also use anymeans to upload the file to your server, not just FTP. However FTP would be the quickest, easiest way of doing it.
