Re: Wreckless Driving / Street Racing

Lets do the math!

2 cars side by side+ vacant road+rapid driving+ spectators= illegal street race

Better find a good lawyer to convince the judge that you were going to the store for milk and cookies

You need an attorney. This is a very serious offense leading to enormous insurance premiums and possible suspension of your license.

Radar has nothing to do with the offenses they have charged you with.

This is a mandatory court appearance so you need to start preparing now.

Yep, screwed. At the end of the day, they have filled out so many forms and followed up with paperwork that when they get to court (and they always speak first) they'll rattle off an entire page of documentation like, "I used radar gun with serial number XXXXX, which was calibrated on date XXXX. I clocked the defendant in excess of at this area of this road, turned to follow, engaged in pusuit on secondary road to ensure the defendant's safety and mine.... blah blah." Then you com in with, "uh, no he couldn't have because..." and it won't fly.

Although its innocent until proven guilty, it doesn't really work that way in practice. While in court, tread very lightly. Reckless Driving charges in some states are one tiny step away from jail time as a punishment. One false move in court might land you in the slammer for a few days.

Get a lawyer like lwpat says and let him/her run the show. In that case, the worst that will happen is that the judgement won't be in your favor, but the nice thing is that it might get things reduced to careless driving or something.
