FW24 F1 model not cheap in the UK.. Shocking..!!

Well, rip off Britain comes to mind on this one. I searched the net for a Tamiya FW24 F1 with the detail up parts. MediaMix are selling the model for £14.95. The cheapest in the UK I can buy it for is £34.99..!!!! That’s £20.00 cheaper. Even with shipping it’s cheaper from Singapore. Even with the detail up parts and the nameplates for the model case base it comes to £51.00 + shipping.

http://www.mediamixhobby.com.sg/cata...roducts_id=329

Also I found some CF templates.

http://www.mediamixhobby.com.sg/cata...oducts_id=2125

Are these the actual CF decals, cut to the right shape, or are they just templates I need to use to make the CF decals from a sheet of CF decal? Confused.

I’m planning to order now, so that when it takes the next 3 – 4 weeks to be sent to me, my impreza WRC project will be nearly completed. I’m planning ahead, and want to build a super detailed FW24 F1 car.. I’m getting more confident… Lets hope it doesn’t all end in tears.

Thanks everyone.

I believe that's the actual decal cut to the right shape.

"Contains two sheets with 36 templated Composite Fiber parts" ... from the link

Looks like it is the precut cf decals

Re: FW24 F1 model not cheap in the UK.. Shocking..!!

I have never ordered a set of SMS templated decals, but I believe they are normal sheets of composite decals with the shapes outlined on the back of the backing paper. I don't think they are precut.

As for the latest Tamiya kits being expensive in the UK, I agree. It's partly down to VAT and not just limited to kits either. I ordered an airbrush from USA recently for between £40 and £50 and UK shops are charging £125. I don't know where the rest of the money goes because VAT is not 100%+.

When you are ordering from abroad you just have to hope it doesn't get caught by customs, although I've never had any problems with Media Mix Hobby. I ordered a resin kit from Hobby Search for £75, paid £20 p&p and was caught by customs and had to pay about £30 for VAT and processing. This doesn't happen very often however.

Tell me about it, I haven't bought a kit in the UK for three years, I guess we're paying for the strength of the pound.
A word of warning though, anything above about £30 will probably have customs charges added. Sometimes the guys at Mediamix mark it as 'Gift' for me but I tend to buy most of my kits from the 'BUY IT NOW' people on Ebay and just get aftermarket parts from Mediamix (since they're normally less than £30).

Oh and it'll be alot quicker than 3-4 weeks My stuff from Mediamix sometimes comes in under a week.

Cheers

I ordered from MediaMix and it took over a month for the goods to arrive to me here in the UK. I don't think this was the fault of the shop but I probably won't be ordering from there again.

It's a shame Tamiya kits cost so much here. I buy all of mine from eBay, because prices there are often a lot lower. But if you're after a specific kit it isn't so good.

I'll tell you one thing, you won't be waiting 3-4 weeks for your order. I live in Scotland and made an order with them for CF decals and it was all done and dusted within a week. I checked their postmark - sent on the 12th Feb, arrived 17th Feb!!

Superb website!

ESIT: Ooops just noticed you guys covered the postage-time thing. I've ordered 5 different orders from them in the last month and all of them have taken around a week.
Oh, and it seems you guys are ordering from the same guy as me via ebay. Very tasty prices. Even with his extortionate post charges the kits are nearly half price!

SMS Template CF is not pre-cut, there normal sheets with the out lines printed on the back but i recomend cutting them a bit bigger (1/16th of an inch whatever in metric) as the templates seem to be a little small.
