Unhappy are the 2004s and '05's less Lemony?

i really want to get a Tibby, but i fear all the lemon law whispers i have heard, especially about '03s.

are the '04s and '05s having fewer problems? too soon to tell?

please tell me i have a fair chance of finding a good Tiburon!

and...what do you all think of leasing?
i really want to mod it, so i'd obviously rather own than lease.

BUT if enough of you say "DON'T BUY! YOU'LL REGRET IT!" maybe i should lease until things improve, then buy & mod.

thanks for any advice.

well in hyaundi's growing experience and wisdom they came to the conclusion that if they made shity cars and had the same things brake on them time and time again that they would be able to sell more cars and prosper as a company so the 04's have more problems then the 03's and thankfuly in my opinion the 05's are the worse ones yet more problems then any other tiburon they have designed and produced

Re: are the 2004s and '05's less Lemony?

well, i've heard that quite a few people are in lemon law procedings concerning their tibs, but hell, i'm going to go test drive one anyway. i need a new car, and i've run out of other options:
civics are weak and overpriced
the acura rsx is a joke
vw has even worse reliability than anything else
(and local VW dealership is crappy)
subarus are way too expensive
srt4 is not my bag (subjective, i know)
the list goes on and on

so, wish me luck, i want a Tib!

if not a tib, go with a gt mustang 05's.. they are really nice and not too badly priced

or go with a 01 tib... the body style looks better in my opinion , and there's a world of wonders yo ucan do with the engine

Don't know where you came up with any of this information. Why would any company want to make a car with poor quality. Plus, how can it be determined that the 2005s are the worst ones yet as far as quality goes. They have only been out a couple of months. We have had our 05 Tibs for about a month, and have yet to sell one that I know of. I don't keep tract of what they do up front, but I haven't seen one go out while I'm here during the day.

Thumbs down Re: are the 2004s and '05's less Lemony?

I don't know about less lemony 'cause I don't have anything to compair it to, however, I had some serious issues with the breaks during the first few months of use of my 04. They replaced the pump 2ce - and the third time I brought it in they calimed they fixed a break hose line (the problem didn't seem any different) - but could have been avoiding that 3x lemon law. I had the clutch replaced after about 30 K (and i wasn't driving it hard as it was new) - to me it seemed like it couldn't possibly be the way I was driving as it was catching near the floor until a few weeks before it went - then it rapidly deteriated. I asked about the master cynindar but they blew me off as usual until they had the new clutch in then needed an extra 3 days because the master cylindar was f-ed. Don't belive them about a loaner during repairs - I didn't get shit - just a referal to Enterprise with their "special rate" - which is exactly the same as the "repair discount" that they tipical give.
I've got 50 K now and looking at a new clutch again (I have a stage II in it now so it should of lasted ALOT longer, but I have been driving harder, but woundn't doubt the master cylindar is f-ed again). Both fog lamps went out already, and i only turn them on in fog or rain. I had something loose underneath that was causing some rattle tightened up with one of the visits for some other misc problem. At this point I've learned my lesson about "new" cars - and will only ever by one that someones worked the bugs out of from now on as I hear all new cars are kinda lemony.

yeah the dealerships are looking to make a quick buck or two, but if your sh!t breaks bring it in... they should fix it (if covered under warranty)... i bring mine when needed and the only problems that i've had are my own fault... and hyundai has fixed them all! (04 tib i4)

I agree with lowsonoma and repeat what nisco said.

WayOutCat, The quality of the vehicles that Hyundai has produced are one of the most trouble free vehicles out there. Look at the other interent forums besides this one you will see that the amount of problems, complaints and recalls are small for Hyundai compared to other brands. Especially some most regarded as top notch, such as Honda, Toyota, Lexus, MB etc. Shoot, Toyota recently had a second recall in less than a month.
It seems that whom ever is telling you this information either has their own personnal bias influencing their judgement or is steering you to get something else. Also, not every vehicle is perfect, some do come out as lemons or more problematic, but the Hyundai vehicles are less than others in this regard. At least from what I've seen.

Hopefully you will get a Tib. Are you planning on a used one or a new one?

Re: are the 2004s and '05's less Lemony?

i am thinking a pre-2000 one with the more cheaply modified 4 banger. they're lighter, and have less of a cop-magnet look --no huge spoiler!-- : )

a lot depends on how soon someone buys my cool old '65 chevy (see cars for sale forum)......so i have some cash.

No 04 problems here...except for

My auto 04 has been great so far, bought it in September, and other than a bizarre split second power loss twice, I've not had any problems so far. The dealer reprogrammed the computer and it's been fine since then.
