In Progress: Ford Sierra Gr.A Tour de Corse '87

Hi guys, I've decided to make a progress thread of the project I'm working on at the moment. It's the most ambitious project I've ever tried and will require some new skills. I'm converting Tamiya's Ford Sierra RS500 Touring Car into a rally version using a Reji transkit. I'm building the Marlboro sposnored Sierra that Carlos Sainz drove on the 1987 Tour de Corse rally in France, finishing in 7th place. Sainz retired from rallying this year so I thought that this would be a good subject, and I have decided to enter it in the BMOM rally car contest in March aswell.

There are several modifications needed to convert the touring car into the rally car, these include:
  • Change the body from an RS500 into the Sierra Cosworth rally version
  • The inside of the car needs a new fuel tank, seats, spare tire and other details
  • Add carbon kevlar decal to seats
  • Make my own seatbelts using the p/e parts provided

Here is a large photo of the actual car: Click here

Yes!! I have been wanting somebody to do this.

Hows the Reji transkit, looks like a lot of cleanup? Will you be modifying the front of the car? I think the rally car had a rear exit exhaust too.

This is my first time using resin, so i'm can't really compare it with anything else, but the transkit does look very nice to me. I am modifying the front end of the car right now, using the epoxy putty.

Also, since this is a Sierra Cosworth, the exhaust is on the side, the same as with the Escort Cosworth.

You're right about the rally Sierra having a side exhaust, as Alex showed correctly.
However, not all the Escort Cosworth cars has side exhausts, the earlier versions were rear exhausts.

This auta be good, best of luck with it.

For this era of Fords as a general rule of thimb I think tarmac events had side exhaust and dirty events rear. Although there must be exceptions to that.

Nice picture too, thank you. I am considering that particular livery for one of my Cosworths.

Hi Spitfire,

do you know that the model you intend to build is available from scaleproduction in Germany?

Here you find fotos of the 1:1 car and the transkit:

Hi Technoman,

yes, as I wrote in my thread and as freakray posted:

it is a transkit, just hava a look at the link I posted and see, what´s comming with it. Maybe you can save a time consuming job at the body.

I have seen the scale production transkit, but I decided to get the Reji one instead since this is my first time using resin and a resin body might be too difficult for me. Apparently that version could be built into the Q8 car, which I like the livery of.

Sorry to stray, but does anyone know where you can get the Scale Productions transkit in the US?
