Question Tamiya Spray-Work Compressor DC Input Voltage?

Hi guys.
After a long enought time away from the modelling bench, i have decided to pick it up again.

As you can see in the pic, this is an old compressor. Now instead of charging those crappy old Tamiya Ni-Cads to run this thing, what voltage input does this thing take, so that i can run it off DC power. I know the Nicads had a voltage of 7.2V but the 7.2v plug does not fit it....???

Any help would be greatly appreciated and once i get this sorted out, you should see some of my projects on here soon.

Cheers from Down under!!

(And yes, that is a 1/12th Tamiya Enzo!!!)

I got the same problem. I bought one of those variable voltage PSU's with interchangable heads. Problem is none of the heads fit. I got it from Maplin for those of you in the UK.

Anyone have any clue?

Cheers

the pix of the adapter is helpful.
6.5 volts at 2.6 amps
The adapter shown is a JDM type (because of the 100v input)

The best solution is to contact Tamiya for an adapter.

Most universal adapters I've seen simply cannot supply that much current (they are either 750milliamp or 1 amp max).

You may be able to find a power supply for a computer printer that is close to those numbers and may well have the right plug too.

I know there are some out there that will work, but I don't know exactly which ones.

PM me and I'll do my best to help.

Re: Tamiya Spray-Work Compressor DC Input Voltage?

This might be a little pricey in your neck of the woods, but you might want to look into an R/C charger of some type, and see if it could power the compressor continually. Might need one with a motor control feature, but if you find one that works, it can be used to charge any batteries you have around the house.

Also, R/C car batteries are much better today: Upwards of 3300mah NiMH cells, more than duble the typical packs 10-12 years ago. Run a couple in parallel and you have double the capacity.

If you just need a connector adapter, try WS Deans Ultra Plugs on the power supply and the charger: Easy to install if you can solder a bit, and zero voltage drop.

Thanks guys for all the responses.

Im thinking that there might be a way to splice the battery connectors in order to make an adapter fit them. Maybe splice a 7.2V lead into them? Can you guys follow what im saying here?

I do have some of the 3300 packs, but i just dont want the compressor to cark it right in the middle of a nice coat of paint....

And BTW, here is another pic of the Enzo for the user that requested it...

I hear you on the batteries dying in the middle of a coat. Can you take some pics of your equipment? A pic of the connector on the compressor, and a pic of one on the power supply you are using would help.
