VR4 vs. Prelude

Well, nothing too exciting. At least I had an actual "race". My brother and I were on our way to hockey at about 3:30 this afternoon in the 93 VR4 (us about 370lbs combined + gear), when we passed this gas station. Pulling out was a blue 92-95 Prelude with a full body kit, exhaust, you know the type. It also had 17?" wheels. I noticed them pull out rather quickly and begin to tail me, so I continued to drive normally. As they were coming up on me, I noticed how amazingly stupid the car looked. The front bumper was too wide for the car, and it pretty much touched the ground. Whatever, to each his own, I guess.

We got onto the highway, and I passed a string of cars. I just had 2 stabilizer clamps replaced on the driveshaft and thought I'd see how it was working. I left it in 2nd coming on to the highway but he didn't move, so I shifted into 3rd and let it climb to about 5k rpm. At this point, I pulled in, and the three young guys in the car hit it and started going by me. I planted my right foot, the car hesitated for a second (as it's been doing lately, unfortunately), and I then proceeded to leave them by 5+ cars by the time I shifted into 4th, letting off and switching lanes to pass more cars. They stayed back a goodly amount of distance this time.

I pulled in and anticipated their next move so I left it in 3rd. Sure enough, they tried to do a flyby on me, thinking they'd catch me offgaurd. I was cruising around 70mph when they came up on me at I would estimate 90-100. When they got within 4 or so cars, I once again planted my foot, with some hesitation again, and it took me nearly until the end of 3rd to start walking away. I went into 4th for a brief second, and let off at like 130 after I had put a bus length or two between us. We exited and that was all the playing they wanted with me for the day.

As I said, nothing too special but a kill nonetheless. However, now the car is working like crap again, exhibiting the same severe vibration as before they replaced the bearings. I need new UV joints. What can I say, the car is quite fast and in impeccable shape as far as looks go, but it must go. I'm going to sell it as is for cheap and give up on cars for a while. If my dad gets the Cobra he wants, maybe I'll have some more stories for you...with him driving, OF COURSE.

Re: VR4 vs. Prelude

Nice kill, sorry to hear you are still having trouble with it. I always liked the combo you had of the v8 and the TT, it was nice to have an impartial owner. Good luck with the sale.

Your 1996 Mitsubishi 3000GT VR-4 is the 92nd out of the 315 that were made that year. Only 21 of which are exactly identical.

the reason why people call a 3000GT a VR-4 is becsaue there is quit a big difference between them, so to save the trouble of explaining further, you just get it over with by sayin its a VR-4 straight up, there is no other VR4 that any other car makers make besides the gallant vr-4. however since we know hes a 3000GT vr-4, its a VR-4.

so i guess you don't mind your car being compared to a RS, or GS huh?

Lol, you're from Texas?? That's where I bought it from! Oh well, I'm FAR away in NB, Canada now. I had it shipped to Mass. for $500 and picked it up there.

Re: VR4 vs. Prelude

Well, my car is just a Civic. I don't compare my car to an HX, LX, or DX. Either way it's just a Civic. So I could see where Treefrog is coming from. I don't go about calling it an EX just because it's better than the rest of the models.

But I would expect it to be different for higher performing models. Cars like the VR-4 and Srt-4 have earned those titles which seperate them from their own kind. A VR-4 Deserves that title. It's not just a 3000GT, there's more to it than that. But call your car whatever you please, I just may start calling my car the EX, but don't count on it . Late...

well people call civic's civic's unless its a Si, then everyone will call a civic Si a Si becasue again, there is a big difference between them, or a GSR or a Type R. i dunno thats just the way i bought up to call them. becasue whenever you describe a teg, or lude, they always asked if it was v-tec or not, so you just save the trouble of having to repeat yourself by just sayin its either a v-tec lude, or a gizzer.

Re: VR4 vs. Prelude

I say I have a "gt mustang". Because if I say I have a GT..who knows what the hell I'm talking about. But, if I say I have a mustang..the next question is "V8 or V6?". Depending on who asks I'll go into the whole story. "2002 GT mustang, 5 spd, silver, with 24,000 miles on it."

Re: VR4 vs. Prelude

I agree that you should say what the car is if it is a big power difference. Such as "Mustang GT", "VR4", "Z06", unless it's an srt-4, then it's just a funny neon. J/K
