have an imporntant question

MODS i didnt know where to post this so i am sorry if its in the wrong area.
Ok I live in kansas and i am making payments on my 99 mustang every two weeks. They put a box on my vehicle and after i make a payment they give me a # to punch in on this box. I have made all my payments on time never missed one. This box has shut down my car 3 times and 1 time when i was 6hrs away from home on a trip. It is pissing me off because they said it wouldnt do this and recently i was told that it was illegal but cant find info on it and was wondering if any one can help me out to see if infact it is illegal. I cant talk to my lawyer till 2wks and i have another trip to make and dont want stranded. The surgen general said that they knew nothing about this and to talk to a lawyer and i cant post pone this trip my last grandma has cancer it maybe my last time to see her.
thanks to anyone who can help me
chris

Re: have an important question

Ring the finance provider and go balistic at them.If you are certain that all the payments are up to date, demand reimbursement for any inconvenience.

You are paying big money for the privilege of owning a vehicle,if they can'et get their shit together with the finance, you are still the customer and are still entitled to what you have paid for.If they still give you grief, you should consider shopping around for refinancing.

Is this for real? You get a car and the finance company places a box in it and you have to punch in a number after you make a payment. Then and only then will it work. WTF, I never heard of that. Yikes. Who the heck did you piss off at the finance company. Damn.

Re: have an important question

I havent pissed no one off I wanted to get a car on my own so i did i pay like almost 350/month with a 3yr loan on the car never missed a payment and if i do the car is shut down 2 days after. It has shut down 2 times before payment was due and 1 time 3 days after the payment. they said they dont know how it happend. I went through them in a inhouse finance. I am personly thinking about taking out the box after i see where all the wires run to i know it wont take me long.(have taking automotive electrial corses.) only prob is it is connected to a satleite so they kno if it is tamperd with.

How much longer until the car is paid off? I would wait if it's less than a year, and run as far away from them as possible. In this case, I would even contact the aclu, this is invading your privacy. BTW, I know that only in california it is illegal for car rental companies to use tracking devices, everywhere else it is still lega.

I may be wrong, but I think I read an article that here in NY the state Attorney General sued and won a case against two rental car companies who charged extra fees to customers who went out of state with their vehicles. The companies had to reimburse the extra charges. It is either illegal here in Ny to use the tracking devices in that manner, or there is a bill pending in the state Legislature pertaining to this matter.
