well looking for somthing rwd and can be unleashed on the weekends at the strip and track, hopefully a chevy but open to all imports but not fords (no real grudge against them but i just hate what they have out)

note! the car has to be cheap! im only a 16 year old and only have a limited budget.

hopefully a sports car but i am open to stationwagons too!

I think the perfect car for you would be a 95-02 Chevy Camaro 3.8 liter V6......with a 5-speed manual. They are RWD and come with 200 hp stock. They run in the 15's stock, so you have something decent to start out with. They also get decent gas mileage, although your insurance may be quite high. But, they are fun cars, I have a 97 Camaro.

I don't know where you are getting 15's stock from, they are mid 16's stock. Anyway, you need to tell us exactly what your price range is because cheap to you may be expensive to us and vice versa.

Well for that price i doubt you will be able to find any kind of speed, maybe if you are lucky an old beater that runs decent. For that range you are prolly looking 80s cutlass, maybe a few cadillacs, some 80's toyotas(celicas if lucky) There is the possibility of finding an 80's camaro v8 that needs some work for that price, if you are lucky. Good luck man, there isn't much, but I;m sure you will find something.

For cheap performance, I tend to say X-body... Nova, Ventura, Omega. All available with V8s and as light as a camaro or fire-chicken... plus more weight on the rear which is something the camaro lacks.

Normally, I'd say F-body, but the draw more money for a beater. Since the X body isn't in such high demand you tend to get more car for less money. I looked at a split-bumper Camaro with no engine, interior, or glass that was worth $1000, but that same quality X-body you can get practically free.

You can usually pick up a rusty caddy for cheap. Pick one from the mid 70's with the 500 ci engine. Not much of a performer in stock form, but there are tons of aftermarket parts for them and 500 hp is easy from these lightweight engines. The caddy 500 with an aluminum intake weighs less than a chevy 350 with an iron intake. Unfortunately, the cadillac car weighs 5000 lbs

Go outside the box. You'll find more bang for the buck if you choose a less desirable car. Everybody wants a classic camaro, but a classic Omega or Deville doesn't draw the interest that a GTO or Chevelle does so its a cheaper buy.

Look into AMC stuff, too. Not sure how many AMCs made it up to Hockey-land (that's my affectionate term for my second home to the north) but they tend to rust easily and go dirt cheap. I bought a 1973 Hornet Sportabout wagon with 7400 original miles (that's not a typo... 7400 miles) for US $1500.

I'm also a big wagon freak and often times wagons are less desirable... meaning cheaper. Wagons tend to weigh more, but for the money you save buying it you could probably spend it on the engine.

I agree with some of the other assessments, though. $1000 CDN is not much. Although the exchange rate suggests that it equals $750 US, in general $1000 CDN buys less than $750 US as far as cars are concerned.

If you're looking for a restorable classic, you need to come up with more money. If you want a beater that runs, buy a rust bucket and drive it until it dies.

You may want to consider a late 70's - 80's Chevy Impala or Caprice. These things go cheap wherever you live. 2drs seem to be a bit on the rare side but if you settle for a 4dr most people are practically giving them away. Most come with V8's that are cheap to work on, maintain and build some horses with if you want. If your looking to make one faster headers, dual exhaust, and a 4 brl setup are pretty cheap upgrades. You could also take and lighten the thing up by removing a lot of the "luxury" items as well as the components that don't work anymore, ie the rear seats and the AC and all of its related bits and pieces come to mind.

From import land I would recommend a early 90's Subaru Legacy. You can find a good one for less than $1000 and put some minor mods into it and have a decently quick car. The horizontally opposed 4cyl motors (boxers) are very reliable and literally indestructable (I had one with 232,000 miles on it when I sold it to my buddy who still drives it). Check ebay on the Subarus because they are very popular in Northern US states.

ok well wanting a v8 car and that is smaller (amx!) and have looked at gremlins and pacers just for that look plus my family has had experience with amc products (father worked at amc and mother had a gremlin, before my father started modding it, then she was scared to drive it!)

mainly i like the pacer because of the fishbowl rear end.

camaroincal, cool it, or you will get banned again. But you are right, the 3.8L V6 Camaro is capable of running mid-high 15's stock. Low 15's is either a freakin' miracle, or the car is modified. However, there is no way you are gonna find one for $800 US. In fact, you're not going to find anything decently reliable or fast for that kind of money. Save up until you have at least $5,000, then you can get something nice.

well i can up my price range a few grand it is a muscle car (my father is wanting to do a rebuild with me for some father son time), but i can build the car up from the ground so a rusted out car is fine with me!
