What's These Guys' Problems

I emailed both Holley and Edelbrock about the performance differences on a couple of their carburetors, and neither of the pricks that responded to my questions answered them any further than the sales information listed on their websites.

You would think, if you asked a COMPANY REPRESENTATIVE a question on THEIR OWN PRODUCTS they should be able to answer it. Jesus it's not like I asked them to explain quantum physics.

Has anyone had that problem and who the hell do you ask to get a friggin answer?

PS:
Edelbrock Question Was: Performance difference between 750 Performer
and 800 Thunder Carbs - all else being equal

Holley Question Was: Performance difference between 3310-c and 750
Street Avenger Carbs - all else being equal

Re: What's These Guys' Problems

Yeah I should call, but don't have the time during work to do it. (I may just have to piss of my boss one of these days.) You would think that the moron answering my email could at least ask someone with a pulse what the answer is.

My father in law used to work for Holley 25 years ago (accounting dept) and said that the people in the engineering and production departments knew their stuff so well that your eyes would glaze over if they tried to explain something to you.

Well, I guess they all died or retired because the current sales & support personell don't have a combined IQ of 20.

Forward me your email and I will call them for you if you want, I got nothing else to do and wouldn't mind knowing myself.

Re: What's These Guys' Problems

Thanks, First post was basically all I wanted to know.
I've got a 454 that has a Holley 3310-3 on it that's a complete shitheap. I want to replace it with something similar, but not sure if I want to stick to the same design. The 3310-3 is a 750cfm 4 barrel with (I think) vacuum secondaries (whatever the hell that is).
I was looking at :
1. Holley Street Avenger 770 CFM
2. Holley 3310-C (which I think is just an updated 3310-3 with a nice finish)
2. Edelbrock Performer 750 electric choke
or
4. Edelbrock 800 Thunder Series.

I went to Holley's website and figured that I need somewhere around 725cfm at 85% efficiency (VE).
(454*6500)/3456 * 85% = 725 CFM

Like I said I just want to know, all other engine components being the same, what is the performance difference as far as HP, Torque, Gas Mileage, etc. so I can decide which will suit my purposes. I also need to know how difficult they are to install and maintain. ie Will a 770 Street Avenger bolt up to the fuel lines etc on a 3310-3? Do I have to be a carb freak to keep it in tune?

According to their classifications my car, I guess would be "hot." But I bought it that way and am still learning about it, so I'm not sure how aggressive the cam is, etc.

Thanks

Re: What's These Guys' Problems

Thanks man, you don;t have to do that. It just pisses me off that these idiots want you to buy their products, but they want you to go to Pep Boys or Autozone where some idiot that knows nothing about the product is trying to sell it to you.

Re: What's These Guys' Problems

The formula is from Holley's website.

I am starting to believe any company will hire anyone, for any reason, so long as they have a pulse.

I've run into the same caliber of idiots in Pep Boys and Autozone up here. The local parts shops are a little better, and the speed shops wnat to charge you and arm and a leg just to talk to you. Usually when I tell the guys at Pep Boys or Autozone I have a 70 Camaro with a 454 they go trying to look up parts for it. CHEVY NEVER PUT A 454 IN THEM! Then they come back with an answer that makes absolutely no sense. I keep trying to tell them they're wrong but they say "no look... it's right here on the computer..."

Let me clue you guys in on the dirty little secret.....

There is the number we as consumers call. And then there is the real number as a distributor you call which you don't hold for hours and get put on the line to the true tech guys who can answer all your questions off the top of there head or even the engineers who make the shit.

Why do they do this you ask? Well #1 Holley and many of the other big part consortiums aren't interested in dealing with direct sales. Also it's cause they want you to have to goto your local speed shop and buy from them. It's there way of helping the local speed shops out against the Summits of the world.
