Question.

Lets say you had someone elses stuff in your car. Radio, CD's, anything of value, say $50-$100. Now, lets say your car was broken into, and their stuff was taken, along with some of your own items. You were not using thier stuff, it was just left in there. Do you think you are obligated to repay them for the items taken? Like I said, you didnt ask for them to be in there, they were left there.

Could I get some inpute please.

You shouldn't be obligated to pay for anything. They left the stuff there of their own free will. If they try to make you pay for it, charge them a storage fee for having the shit in your car in the first place. It's not your fault it was stolen, and not your fault they left their stuff in your car...

Re: Question.

If you had borrowed them then you would be obligated to make a payment. However since the items were left there by the said persons own mistake, you're not accountable.

Re: Question.

exactly. Only had you borrowed the stuff. Even if you were hanging out with them, and they brought along their cd book, and left it in the car, then its still not your responsibility. Any friend would understand that, and instead of telling you to pay for it, they would feel bad that your car got broken into, and accept the loss. Its just the rules of life. You dont hold a friend accountable for something they had nothing to do with.

Re: Question.

Put it in your insurance claim and give it to them that way if it's possible. If not, buy them a beer to say you're sorry for their loss.

Re: Question.

Put them in your trunk and ask them how they like it, then blame them for torturing their items that way.

Re: Question.

yeah, you shouldnt have to pay them unless you get some money from your insurance. I too think you should just buy them a beer and call it even.

Re: Question.

All care and no responsibility.

As long as you didn't leave the car doors unlocked, you've taken reasonable care of their stuff. If they care that much about it they should look after it more closely.

Re: Question.

What taranaki said, they never left you with any responsibility to look after the items.

Of course we all know it's the rat bastard thieves who should be paying.....

Re: Question.

hell no, dont buy him a beer. He should be buying you a beer. For all you know, the stuff he left sitting on the seat could be the reason your car got broken into in the first place. I say kick his ass, and then make him buy you a 12 pack for being such a jerk and asking you to pay for it.

if your friend is beeing a prick about it just tell him that the police believe the car was broken into because the burglar wanted the cd's and radio (that he left there), and then tell him that you can either call it even or that you would be more than willing to pay for his cd's as long as he pays for the damage to your car.

I agree with everyone else...if they left it there, it's their problem. If you borrowed it, go thru insurance.
