I have always wanted to be in the street racing scene, but never had the money, so i didnt bother with it. Well now I do, but I dont know jack about the scene. I just got myself a 2001 Tiburon that I want to use to try and step in. Any tips, pointers or Dummy's guides on who to talk to, or where to go, would be appreciated.

Re: New to the scene.
First of all, if you are going to street race dont do any of this on highway with regular civilans around you shit. Please keep it on closed roads or country backroads. becides that, mod your car to hell, and rep hyundai!

As for the question, there are numerous members that do the racing scene here in AF. Besides the members in here giving you advise, I would suggest to check out the Racing section. I am sure they would be able to help you out on where to go and whats available in your area. Have fun and be safe. TS out

Welcome to the scene! Not much into racing, I've just seen way to much happen in my lifetime. I do like knowing the power is there when I need it, though.

Re: New to the scene.
It all depends on your budget and hp goals. If you want over 200 whp, you're gonna have to go turbo. If you want to go that route, talk to Tim over at www.speed-factor.com. Now, if you just want a quick car, then here's my advice:
1) Hell, this is a must have PERIOD. Go get the Rside Advanced Short Throw Shifter at www.kspec.com . It is MUCH better than the stock shifter. 2) Get an AEM CAI (Cold Air Intake). It helps somewhat. 3)Get a 60mm throttle body. 4)Get an AirRam Intake Manifold. You can get this at KSPEC. 5)Get the Maintec GT Headers at KSPEC. 6)Get a 2.25" exhaust. Max should be 2.5".

How do I go about removing the RPM, MPH and other engine restrictions exactly? I have been reading up on ECUs, but I am not sure if I need different units for different uses, or if there is one that hits it all. If so, is this a good first investment into my car, or should I throw a few other mods under the hood first?

Ok, so what exactly does a 60mm throttle body add to the performance, and where is a good place to find one online? (Bare with me, I am still new with mod parts.)

Increaseing the air flow. But the there will be bottlenecks. Like the intake itself and the upper & lower intake manifolds.

Re: New to the scene.
well as much as it offends people here, if you get on a road where there's no one around, then there's nothing wrong with a bit of accelration.
my girl has an 01... not a very fast car, but it's definately not slow... thankfully you got the 4cyl engine with it, the 2.0 is a nice and easy one to modify. there's a section for all aftermarket stuff on tibs, definately check it out... if your wanting just a straight drag car, go turbo or run nitrous. if your just wanting some fun while your driving around, turbo's an option, but it could affect your mileage... it depends on your budget and other aspects.. be a bit more specific |

Ok so I know its probably nothing to spectacular yet, but I just finished installing the first upgrade for in my car, AEM CAI, and I am loving it. It's addicting. I want to put something else under the hood now. Thanks for all the posted advice.
