Progress: Tyrrell P34, 1977 Monaco GP

Well I just started on this a couple of days ago. It's the Tamiya Tyrrell P34 from the 1977 Monaco GP and of course is in 1:20 scale.

As soon as i opened the box i knew it would be an interesting build and so far i'm not dissapointed. I was quite surprised at the number of parts, as it is a Tamiya kit, and it's going together very easily.

Here is my progress so far:

The engine is complete and i am now working on the transmission.

And the body and wing is primed ready for the 2 tone livery.

Sweet. I want that car, and the 1/10th scale R/C version.

Coming together nicely. For an encore you could build the 1:12th scale 1976 version.

You need to build more Tamiya kits

More progress. I have completed the engine nearly. This is half way through the instructions. All the body parts have been painted their proper colours. I think tonight i will put on the decals (maybe after a bit of polishing) and then cautiously apply a clear coat.

Great build, isn't it fun with these old Tamiya kits!? I know exactly what you meen with the parts count, if my memory serves me right the headers alone is made up of ten parts? I never built this one but thats the way all other Tamiya Cosworth's where built.

Keep it up!

Yeah 10 parts is totally correct. Just for the headers!! When most Tamiya kits don't even have engines, so i don't quite know what Freakray is on about. I suppose the Astra DTM has quite alot of parts, but that is mainly because of the opening doors and the complex body shape.

What I am on about is the fact that you've made a general assumnption based on your experience of Tamiya kits, I have plenty of Tamiya kits with very good part counts which include engines.

Keep in mind also that you're building a 1/20 scale kit, which also lends itself to more detail due to the larger scale.

I think i kind of see where you're coming from now Freakray. If you are talking about 1:20 kits then maybe the part count is much better and with F1 kits as alot of the structure is on the outside or at least visible. I still think that Tamiyas 1:24 scale road cars have a small number of parts, in my experience.
