Re: whats a fair price?

magnapacks and an x pipe can be done by a monkey man. if i were you i would get out your socet set and do those yourself {packs catback=400 and x 150-200} as for the gears i would say about 500 for the install and the extra goodies they use when they put them in then ya have to buy the gears tho for 150 so if you do your own exhaust i would say about 1200

Re: whats a fair price?

haha thanks. yeah i wouldnt have a shop do it they are very self explainitory. all you need is a socet wrench and the right socet. put the car on jackstands{or jack it up and put some sturdy wood under it. when youv got the car up look at your pipies and disconect the {i think 2}bolts on each flange holding the pipes together. there is probly 2 or 3 flanges you need to do it too{not sure on a 4.6} then take off all the rubberbushings on the hangers keeping the pipes conected to the frame. after that pull the pipes over the axle and repeate to put the new ones one. btw if your car has seen a winter or two you might have to do a bit of persuading to get those rusty bolts off but nothin terrible. good luck man!!

That's why if you have a manual you start in second! LoL

I prefer 3.73's on a street car but many people use 4.10's on there street car are perfectly happy too. So while I reccomend 3.73's if some knows what they are getting wit 4.10's go for it!

Re: whats a fair price?

I don't even really drive my mustang in any good amount of snow...like right now..I haven't pulled it out of the driveway. I was thinking about 3.73s but I've talked to lots of people who have daily drivers with 3.73s and they all wish they went with 4.10s. 4.10s are like the perfect amount of gear for 99+ 4.6s. They keep them right in there where they make their peak horsepower/torque. Between those three mods I'm hoping for mid 13s...I think if I went with 3.73s I'd only get high 13s.

Re: whats a fair price?

startign in second will be harder on your clutch but it will get it around quicker in the snow. if that is what you want dont let anyone stop you.

It's not that much harder on your clutch.

There is no one "Best Gear Ratio" for the modulars, and there is give and take with any gear you get.

I had 4:10's, then 3:90's then 3:73's, I even had 3:55's and of course 3:27's.

For the 1/4mile racing, I think 4:10's and 3:90's are nice

For autocross, or lots of highway driving 3:55's and 3:73's.

I wish there was a ring and pinion around 3:80~3:82

The 3:90's are more of a compromise between getting 3:73's and 4:10's. I got mine from http://www.motivegear.com but Pro 5.0 also make's that gear ratio.

Motive gear has the new AX line of ring and pinion that are an average of 2lbs lighter than everyone else's. You might want to look at that if your attempting to shed some rotational mass. That would be the only reason not to get Ford Ring & Pinion sets.
