Honestly, how bad would this Mustang be in the snow?

Between me and my mom we have three cars, her 94 convertible Mustang, which is a v6, and 92 Cherokee, and my car in my sig. Any time it snows, or looks like it's going to snow, the Mustang is put up until it's clear again. My mom is paranoid with snow, so she get's worried even with the Jeep when it's in 4 wheel drive. I haven't driven too much in the snow, because I just got my liscense a few months ago, but it doesn't scare me. I just don't see a reason to be fearful of something that happens naturally, and everyone has to go through it anyway. She gets scared to death that the Mustang will fly off the road as soon as she sees snow. Honestly, how bad would the Mustang be in snow? Does it have a limited slip differential? Would putting extra weight in the back help with traction?

Re: Honestly, how bad would this Mustang be in the snow?

well putting weight in the back does help with traction, thats physics. if your not a real confident driver in the snow then it probably is a good idea to go with the 4x4. i personally dont actually think my stang is that bad in snow and downshifting makes stopping a lot easier. i think the key to driving in the snow is really just having a good feel for the car and dont try to rush, of course theres one thing a stang or camaro for that matter cant really help and that is they wont be able to get going as well as a FWD or a 4x4

Re: Honestly, how bad would this Mustang be in the snow?

My 5spd GT isn't that bad to drive in the snow. An automatic 6 cylinder will drive in snow/ice no problem. Unless of course it's 2 feet of snow with a foot of ice underneath. Those older 6 cylinders only have like 150hp so it's not like it's going to spin out really bad from every stop. The only real 'problem' I have is when I shift gears on ice/snow I slide a little bit. But it's nothing too bad and it very rarely feels like the car is out of my control.

Can a RWD car be driven in the snow.... sure.
Is it as easy to drive in the snow as say a FWD car... no.
Do RWD cars tend to have problems going through any real amount of depth or up hills... yep
Is it easy as shit to spin a RWD car out in snow.... yes! lol

Also don't underestimate tires, my Mustang was dealable in the snow until my current ultra-high performance summer only tires I have now. It's not even possible once there is a skim coat of snow on the road I don't care how good you think you are.

The point is yes a Mustang can be driven in snow but it is def more taxing and take more skill than a FWD or 4WD vehicle. Also if ya mom has a 4WD at her disposal why would she drive her stang in snow?!?!?!

Re: Honestly, how bad would this Mustang be in the snow?

The reason that she needs to drive the Mustang is because I need the Jeep to get to work, and I won't drive her car because it's freaking pink with a black convertible top. If you want pics, I have one, and I'll post it on here. She's been driving for over 20 years, and I don't even have 2 years under my belt, so if I can drive without getting freaked out, I think she should be able to also. She's really difficult when it comes to cars. She bought the Mustang with her tax return money when I turned 16, that's the kind of mom she is with cars. She bought the convertible Mustang when I turned 16, and I had to pay for my own car. She won't buy a manual car either, it has to be auto.

Here it is, it's kinda blurry, but you get the idea of why a 17 year old guy wouldn't want to drive it.

Who paid for the Jeep?

Why don't you drive your Camaro in the snow why does she have to drive the Mustang?

So what it was her money, so she bought a car she wanted which happens to be one wit an auto.
