Green is for Go. Project Green Machine....check it out

well, i've put all of my BIG projects on hold for a while. Getting back to the basics just to knock a couple kits out and get them on the shelf. Something to clear my head and just get together. Also to try out a few techniques like weathering and some other little things. This project is a 1971 charger by AMT. I am very pleased with the quality of this kit. so far the only part that i have had trouble with is the core support/radiator. The detail is very nice. Some techniques that i am trying on this project are weathering the chassis and motor, dry brushing, and i added some detail to the alternator (SAE's engine bay detailing in the current issue.) So far i have the chassis complete and the motor is set in. the body is being cleared as i write this.

The paint is the new model master's custom lacquer system. I chose an original color for 71. Green Go. I am very pleased with this new paint. However, it will take a few kits to learn how to use it correctly. I let it sit for about a week before i polished it out, and it seems to still be soft. Maybe the products i am using are to harsh for the paint. So I decided to follow with some DupliColor Clear coat. I have never had a problem rubbing through this clear. So hopefully the results will bring the paint on this thing up to par. I searched out as many 1971 R/T pictures as i could so this is as acurate as it can be, to the best of my knowledge for a 71 charger R/T. well on to the pics.

now that's a nice start to a great build.
Yr weathering looks really good so i guess you can remember those new techniques and use them wherever you want now. Nice work

I love the color a lot, what rims will you use?

the rims will be kit stock. they are the original R/T rims. this is a totally OOB build. no aftermarket goodies. Want to keep it as close to an original production car as possible. I've got another build im starting along with this one that will be OOB look to see some progress on it in the next couple days. With all the BIG projects i've tackled here lately and some little scratchbuild items im doing for a friend. i needed a break and I am working around the KISS principle for a couple builds.

I like the color. im excited about these new Testor Lacquers. im work on a kit that im going to use the Citrus Yellow Metallic. I love the colors cus there retro. i dont build american cars but i build lots of imports from the 60's and 70's and these color are great for that time period. looks like the paint still sprays heavy like all other Testors though.

Good work, good thinking --> a great build, a great series next to eachother on the shelf.
That's how i see these ideas turn out

I love that color. That puts another idea to my mind. Using the brightest green i can found and use it on a 70 Super Bee pro street.

You picked a great color!! I had an RX-7 painted in that color but it is no longer of this world . It does spray kind of heavy but you should have no problems at all with them . The Charger is looking great so far!!!

Looking good, except theres one problem that plauges this kit: The front sub frame is too far foward, making the wheels almost rub the front of the fenders. I could never find a solution for it though. The paint looks excellent.

Re: Green is for Go. Project Green Machine....check it out

here is an update with some pictures. it is pretty well finished. i just have some minor details, like hoses and stuff for the engine bay. enjoy...

i love the second pic. as someone camaroSS mentioned. the front wheels sit too far forward in the wheel wells. sits a little too low in the front IMO
