0 and 3 with swapped hatchbacks

A little back story on the race I had with this guys early 90's b18 hatchback. My friend has been sayin how badass this guy is at driving his hatchback (shes a girl who doesn't know anything about cars so anything impresses her) I asked him on the phone what kind of engine he had, and he refused to be honest about. He had asked me to race a rainy day a few days earlier, but I turned him down.

However today I got a call from my friend, and she's like guess what, and I hear this engine revving in the background I decide to meet up with them along with my friend who has an old muscle car at the local Jack in the Box. So I arrive at the parking lot to se this magnificant primer gray civic . I lean over through the passenger window.

Me: "pop your hood let me see what you got"
Him: "THats the stupidest thing you could ever do"
Me: "why the hell does it matter it's not like we're betting don't be a ll fast and the furious about"
Him: "dual overhead cam 1.8 litre vtech"
Me: "I'll probably get my ass kicked"
Friend: "your probably going to get your ass whooped" just to make me feel a little less confident

Eventually we came to a place where some of his honda friends were racing. We line up, and go at the sound of my other friend who is in his passenger seat.

First Try: He misses a gear, and so do I but I get back into it, and continue as where he just stops

Second Try: Line up again launch, and once again he misses a shift so I stop, and back up.

Third Try: Same Thing WTF!!! I thought this guy was a good driver?

Fourth Race: Finally we get a legit race, and he beats me by a car length by 80mph. Despite the extra 100lbs he had in the passenger seat I was still satisfied witht he margin.

Fifth Try: Misses a shift again!!!

Sixth Race: We take it all the way up to 100mph but I had shifted a llittle better so he only had a car length on me.

I really though I was going to get my ass whooped as I had in the past. This guy was such a dissapointment. Im sure if he was a better driver I would have got beaten a little worse, but my sr20det will cure that.

Footnotes:
Race a hyped up hatchback driver who misses a number of shifts in a row, and refuses to show his engine to me as if he was paul walker. Get beat by 1 car length each time.

After all those misshifts I'd probably refuse to race him. I don't want some noob losing control of their car and crashing into me.

I'll be getting new tires very soon so if I race him again I think it will be neck and neck. I launched the car from 2 grand while feathering the throttle, and I still got a lot o' wheelspin. When I had my 17" wheels and wanli tires I could launch it from 3 grand without much wheelspin, and it would take off pretty quick. The Toyo proxes ra-1's should yield even better results.

Re: 0 and 3 with swapped hatchbacks

If you want to race, don't get 17"s on a sentra. You need the extra sidewall if you want to avoid wheelspin. Don't get anything over 15. 15 is for go, 17 is for show.

Ok I'm back on my name i have the 14" b13 wheels that come with car, and I'll have the toyo's put on these wheels. When I get my sr20det installed I'll have the 17" wheels on except when I'm racing. I figure the sr20det can handle the 17" wheels without annoying me too much, because the car isn't fast enough.

I don't know if you ever mentioned it, but I did say there will be a significant acceleration difference between your 17's, and the stock alloys. How correct was I?

This is the thread about 3 months ago i started after you told me about the wheels being my problem. I even think there was a thread that I can't seem to find where I cited your advice after racing with the 14's. So besides my launch being shitty because of my old tires it did make the car a lot quicker.

Re: 0 and 3 with swapped hatchbacks

Correct me if I'm wrong, but missing a shift doesn't mean you start over. It means you lose. Maybe one retry, but after that, its too bad. Learn to drive. Nice races too. Even though you lost, he still looked like a douche missing gears all the time.hahahahah

And I know exactly what you mean about uneducated car people. Anything with 8 cylinders, neon, or that thier boyfriend owns impresses them. No offense to the 8-cylinder tuners.
