Re: gaining hops

In our weight room at school we have a thing for that. Against one wall, we have like 1.5 foot by 1.5 foot wide boxes (maybe 6 inches high each) and we stack em against the wall. You stack a few, face em, and then jump up ontop of them, even if it's only for a second (just land your feet on them and then push off). You keep increasing the number of boxes the higher you jump. After a couple sets of jumps up there and back down, you really start to feel it. As far as actual weights, I would reccomend deadlift and leg press.

Re: gaining hops

running is a really good way to build hops, im only 5'11" and i can dunk a volley ball, just not a basketball cause i cant palm it. I used to run cross country and track.

Re: gaining hops

im white. . .i can jump, i can jump over myself. And the whole thing about black guys being able to jump. . .please. When i was doing high jump for track almost 90% of the time a white kid would win. Hell i could jump overmyself and that beat most of the black kids that would high jump. Sprinting is a different story though. . .

thats high jump tho, technique is more important in that. I'm talking about just verticle jump, look at people like steve francis, he's not that tall but he can jump 40+ inches. Also why you dont see that many white guys in dunk competitions.

but it was just a joke anyway, thread reminded me of the movie

Re: gaining hops

There is this thing in EastBay magazine about products to increase vertical jump. You might wanna look at that.

Re: gaining hops

Most white people in the NBA seem to be people that take 3 pointers. Maybe it seems black people in the NBA can dunk better is because they usually come from places where you have to be EXCELLENT to make it(in some cases). So the compitition is harder. Nobody take this offensive, as it was not meant to be at all.
