ZX6R vs. R6

Im planning on getting one of these but i cant decide. I know they both perform great and look great. I think the Kaw is a bit more powerful and geared for more low end exceleration + has better ram air and the R6 has a little bit better handling. Ive sat on them both and there about the same as far as comfort goes but i havnt test driven them (the dealers wont let me) so what one do you guys like more?

Re: ZX6R vs. R6

Now why wouldn't they let you ride them? Did you ask what the qualifications for a test drive might be? Maybe if you had a helmet in hand when you asked......... What bikes have you owned? What do you ride now?....

if they won't let you ride then they can't be keen for your business. are you looking at second hand or new? maybe if they are new they will be hesitant.

i doubt whether you'll be able to split the two performance wise on paper and pick whats best for you. you have to get some saddle time and see what your ass prefers.

all the bullshit you read in the magazines about 5hp difference and gearing doesn't mean a thing if it doesn't match your ride style

Re: ZX6R vs. R6

i find most places won't let you test drive a new bike. used usually isn't a problem. also if they see you ride in on a bike, they may be more likely to let you test one out, if they assume you're a first timer, they won't want you learning on their bike.

As for which bike, I prefer the ninja. it's a 636cc compared to a 599cc and up until this year it was the lightest bike in the 600 class. i have plans to get an 04-05 ZX6R in march, once the winter weather breaks. I think the difference between the wo bikes is negligable, the slight extra tq doesn't make the difference when you're redlining at ~14K rpm.

i think they wouldnt let me test ride because of isurance reasons or somethin'
but i currently ride an older harley 883 sportser and i only have a little experience on my friends cbr600 and gsxr 750, which is why im going to a 600 before i get a 1000cc bike.
But i liked the feel of the yamaha a bit more when i sat on it so i think ill go with that one.
Thanks for the help.

Re: ZX6R vs. R6

yeah, no dealer will let you ride a new bike... they dont want you to steal it lol. most of them will not let you ride used bikes eather. nevermind the fact that they dont know if you can ride it or not. think about how car salesmen are when you are testing a 5-spd they always ask at least 2 times, 'can you drive a standard?'

First compare the ZX6rr with the R6 that is a much closer camparison. If your looking for a great street bike go with the bigger ZX6r. If your looking for a all out track/street bike go with the ZX6rr.

As for test drives most dealers won't with out a deposit. If you want to test drive bikes go to a big rally or Bike week. I have also seen them at large road racing events.

oh man i feel sorry for you guys. i've always been able to walk into any dealer and get a test ride. i've tested R1's, R6's, cbr954 (bought it) cbr600, zx9, yzf1000, even a 996 and a buel. i just rock up in my work ute piece of crap and borrow their helmet. only thing is, i sign a waiver that says if i stack it i own it!

Re: ZX6R vs. R6

My b/f works at a bike dealership. Last year a dude came in with a stolen ID that looked like him as much as most driver's licenses do, and stole the bike. He ended up wrecking it, and the cops traced it back to the shop, but now no one can test ride anything.

something similar happened at one of the bike shops i went to. A guy was test driving a $20,000 harley and totaled it and the bike shop ended up paying somethin like $5k for repairs and they cant sell i as new anymore so now they wont let anyone testdrive either.
Also a few of the sportbike shops sayd they had the same problem, a lot of people are not useto the power of the bikes and crash.

Re: ZX6R vs. R6

Most dealers have demo bikes you can take for a quick spin but when it comes to sport bikes, you'd have to find someone who will allow you to ride their bike.
