Question 1990 5.0 mustang gt wont kick over

I was driving my 90 gt 5.0 mustang down the road easy and it started acting like it wasnt getting any gas and finally died.. I pushed if off the road and it wouldnt kick and acted like the battery was dead. I had someone give me a jump and it would make the starting sound but nothing would kick over. I checked all the wires and everything is plugged in. Does anyone know if it could be the fuel injection or the ignition or the plugs and wires.

When you turn the Key to ON (Not Crank) can you hear the whine of the Fuel Pump?

Yup start there. You have to narrow it down, weather it's fuel or spark related.

Try to hear the whine of the fuel pump if you don't or your not sure.

Pull one of your spark plugs out and stick it in the plug wire. Now lay it against something metal and crank the car like your gonna start it. Have some check that the plug is arching. That will help rule out ignition(spark).

Well i bought a coil for it and hooked that on and the car started up..i was driving it down the road right after and the car started shutting off like if i would hit the gas it would die more and more but if i let it idle it would run but no go anywhere....then earlier i was messin with it and it was doing it outside so i turned all the lights off and the car ran fine. Could it be my alternator is bad and my battery is dead.

first try to get a new freakin fuel filter... after the install chect to see if it dose it again.. if it dosent then im sure its your fule pump. you said that after you turned off the lights it fixed the problim. if installing the new filter dosent help, then im sure its your fule pump. as you turn the lights off, the alt would alow more power to the strugling pump. if you wanted to do it right, you should slap on a fule pressure tester and try to get the car to act up again. look to see if your pressure drops when its acting up, if it dose its your pump. you might be able to rent a tester from your local parts store. wish i could be more helpfull. BTW if it were any thing other then your filer or pump, your check engin light would be on, so it has to be one or the other.
