Had a scare tonight and two kills (very long story)

Tonight I pulled into Sonic to get my girlfriend a "Sonic Blast" (icecream), and upon entering the lot I noticed two guys checking out my car. One guy was driving an Eclipse GSX, which he later claimed to be a 12 second car, and the other guy was driving a Newer mustang GT with a Cobra motor swap into it , minus the super charger. Well anyway, I pulled in and ordered the food, and as I was waiting for the food I went to the restroom. WHen I got back into my car I could here the two guys talking between themselves and one said to the other, and I quote "Do you want to take this Nova or should I?"

When I heard that I kind of laughed to myself and proceeded to leave the parking lot, with both guys following behind me. We made a right onto the highway and Me and the Mustang caught the 1st redlight that was maybe 10 yards from the Sonic exit. He didn't give any indication that he wanted to race, so I didn't think anything of it. But when the light went green he took of like a bat out of hell. He had already gotten a huge jump on me, so I didn't worry about taking off fast and just drove normally. He slowed down and waited for me, and from like a 30 MPH he rolled his window down and asked If I wanted to race. I told him sure, and I downshifted into second with my auto, and he was in second with his standard.

He asked if I wanted to honk it off, but I told him my horn doesn't work (which he doesn't) and after he floored it, I'd go to. He waited 2 or 3 seconds then romped on the gas, and as soon as he did, I did too. At first he got a pretty good jump on me, maybe half a car length, but as soon as my motor started getting into the higher RPMS it really comes alive and from around 4k RPMS-6kRPMS I pulled on him hard and but a few car lengths inbetween us. I shut it down at the top of my second, which was the top of his 3rd (I think) at around 70MPH, because we were on a public highway.

His buddy in the GSX was behind us the whole time. I have been seeing this GSX all over town, always popping off his BOV, so I really wanted to race hgim. After racing the mustang the guy in the GSX came around him and got along side of me. I really wanted to race this guy from a dig, his AWD vs my massive torque, but the oppurtunity didn't present itself. We also started from around a 30MPH roll, but this guy I had the guy honk it off. It was basically the same exact scenario as in the previous race, but the GSX never got ahead of me because we started at identical times. I didn't pull QUITE as hard on the GSX, but he stayed about 2 cars behind me.

Now the "Scare" Part:

After we all raced, we all made a U-turn, and started heading back towards Sonic. Well, as luck would have it me and the Mustang catch a redlight which is directly across from a Macdonald's, but you can't see the Macdonald's because there is another huge building in the way. Anyway, me and the Mustang line up at the light, and this time I ask him if He wants to race. He smiled and said sure. Well we line up at the light and when it goes green, I launch the Nova very well. I run the speed up to 50ish with the Mustang behind me, when all of a sudden my girlfriend tells me there is a cop sitting at the Macdonald's. I immediately slow down and so does the white Mustang. The cop pulls in behind the GSX, which is right behind the Mustang.

As stupid luck would have it, me and the Mustang catch the very next light, which is a little less then a 1/4 from the lgiht we raced at. As we take off from the light, I accelerate slightly faster then normal to put some distance between myself and the cop, who was 3 cars back. I keep going down the highway, but the guy in the Mustang pulled off the highway and made a U turn, and pulled back into the Sonic parking lot, with his GSX buddy behind him. To my COMPLETE relief, I watched the cop turn on its flashers and follow the GSX and mustang into the Sonic parking lot. WHen I saw that I sped up a little, then got off the highway and took all backroads to my house.

After spending about 10 minutes at my house I changed and got ready for work, then drove back to the Sonic in my OldsAurora beater car to see what had happened. The cop was gone, but the two guys in the Mustang and GSX were sitting there talking to each other, and I got out and walked up to them to see what had happened. They were both Really nice guys, and he said the cop just gave him a ticket for "careless driving" and bitched at him a little bit. He said he would be able to get the ticket fixed with no problem, so I was really happy to hear that. I asked him if the cop commented on me, and he said that the cop had intended to pull me over because I was winning the race, but because the other two guys pulled off the highway he just decided to pull them over instead. (this is when I found out what each car ran and the mods and all).

Anyway we talked for a few more minutes then shook hands and parted ways. I was relieved that the guy in the mustang (who got the ticket) wasn't very pissed, and even more relieved that the cops didn't get to pull me over for winning the race. Well this happened tonight and I wanted to recount this while it was fresh in my head. If you read it all, thanks for your interest.

Cliff Notes:
Raced a 2002ish model mustang with a cobra motor swap from a roll and a dig, won both.

Raced a Eclipse GSX no idea of year, from a roll, won

Cop saw me and the mustang racing from a dig with the GSX behind the mustang, but pulled the mustang over because he pulled off the highway while I went straight.

Went back to the Mustang who had got pulled over 10 minutes earlier in my other car, found out he just recieved a careless driving ticket, bullshitted a few minutes, then we all walked away friends.

Wierd night and I was very happy to get to work.

nice race rob, just out of curiousity, what kind of horsepower is your Nova running on..... oh and what happened to the gorgeous vette you were building? sorry haven't been on the forums for like 2 months now

As it sits now, all the little trim is back on it ans the car is complete. The Corvette is more of an investment. I purchased the car for 3500, put about another 3500 into it along with alot of man hours, and now I would have no trouble getting 20 grand out of it seeing as it is an origional big block Corvette and they are shooting up in value. I drive it probably two times a month just to keep all the seals fresh and keep everything working right, but thats about it. Thanks for your interest.

Nice kills, and I bet you were sweating pretty good there for a while with the cop behind you. Did the GSX really turn out to be a 12 second car?

LOL, indeed. I took every backraod I could find home, and parked the Nova and started driving the least noticable car I ow, the Olds Aurora. As for the Nova's horsepower numbers according to desktop dyno its turning 525 horsepower and 535 torque.. I know DD isnt 100% acurate, so I just call it 500/500 flywheel horsepower.

What realy got me, is the cop didn't pull anyone over immediately. He followed us for maybe 1/4-1/2 a mile, and then as soon as the Mustang and GSX turned off the highway, he pulled in behind them. I later called my neighbor who is a long time police officer and he said only auxillarly cops were working, so they only work 1 day a week anway and I shouldn't have to worry about it in the future.

As to how fast the GSX actually was, I honestly couldn't tell you. I know he was slightly faster then the mustang, but not as fast as my Nova. I really wish I could have raced the GSX from a stop, but I think he would have got me because of my traction issues. Well thanks all.

sounds like fun...besides the whole cop thing...lol i know how scary that can be...one time i was like startin to race some guy but noticed the cop parked in the parking lot...so i pulled off and drove normally...i've saved my best friend from gettin pulled over quite a few times because i've seen the cops when he didn't...

yeah i have a thing for seeing cops too.... the only time i got pulled over was when i was telling my firend that was running the cam. to get a shot at my speedameter.... well as i was looking down and shit a cop pulled from behind me and pulled me over for 70 in a 40....

by the way how much dose one of those tickets go for?

u said u put it into 2nd at 30 mph? how come u didnt put it into 1st? doesnt ur 1st wind out at 50ish?

my maxima has traction issues too.. not near as bad as urs but what do u suggest.. my friend told me to powerbrake it and ease on the gas then when i feel that it wouldnt slip, floor it.. while holdin it in 1st.
