Re: difference of d16 and b16

search, but your gonna look at this anyways so, a d16 is sohc, meaning single overhead camshaft, and the b16 is DOHC, meaning, double overhead camshaft. There is about a 40 hp difference if not, a little less(b16 160, d16, 120-130). Torque numbers, slightly higher in the b16's(110-120 lbs/ft) but not by much, d16's(d16z6) come in ex 5th gens, im not sure in which model but they come in the 6th gens as well(d16y8), the b16's come in a variety of cars, 92-93 jdm integra's, del sol's (not sure which years), Si hatch's 92-95(not usdm), 99-00 civic Si, those are the ones i know of, there are more that are older but im not sure in what cars they come in(civics), theres a sticky at the top of the list of the threads, look at that for further info. And anyone correct me if any of my info is not right please.

i have a sohc vtec d16y8 and a dohc vtec b16. 1 difference people don't think about is the cost of maintance. aftermerket and OEM parts are cheaper for the z6/y8. you could slap turbo on a z6/y8 and get almost as much hp as a b16 with only a little more money spent than doing a b16. on the flip side you tap out on hp quicker with a sohc...dohc has much more potential

which engine is better for you really depends on you

to expand on what 95dxcivic said:

92-95 civic si/ex = d16z6
96-00 civic ex = d16y8

for more info on the years and hp's you can check out: http://tech.hybridgarage.com/tech/specs.htm
